We honeymooned here while backpacking around the lake..in the snow. We lost the trail for awhile, then bushwacked our way back. Ran out of water and the purifier broke. But we made it, loved it and will go back again and again. Beautiful place.
We enjoyed paddling our kayaks along the shoreline of this beautiful lake. It's over a mile and a half long and I'd say there's a good five miles of shoreline to explore. We'll be back.
Beautiful hiking trails that take you by several lakes - approx 4.5 miles. Not too difficult, very picturesque.
Took a spin on our new motor boat. The day was cool and clear. Water sparkling and crystal clear. Just a few boats on the lake as it's 'after the season'. Best time to go!
Its all beautiful and mostly unspoiled and lightly traveled. We have paddled on many of the smaller lakes and find many to be breathtaking natural granite cirques.
Great fishing, beautiful scenery, tranquil beaches under the pines and some hiking on top of that. Great for jet skis and boats.
I love everything about the area. You can take short hikes and see 5 lakes or so. Check out Sardine Lake area, Frazer falls, Lakes Basin campground, hiking trails.
A gorgeous lake, with beautiful backdrops. Good for sailing, kayaking or canoeing. Not really big enough to take power boats on. Very cold for swimming, but it can be done. Kids can catch crawfish near the dock.
The water was pristine, the views were inspiring and the clean fresh mountain air made the trip complete. We had a lovely picnic and enjoyed the day.
Quaint old Gold Mining area, spectacular views of the Sierra Buttes, mini Alps! Stope by the local Hotel, good food and beverage, plus an excellent opportunity to hang out with the locals...enjoy the only art gallery in town and the Fox Parlor, full of unique gifts & goods. Order a Hennessy House Wooden Flagpole!
A great year round destination. We fish and camp there in the spring, summer and fall. Snow mobile, snow shoe and cross country into it in the winter time. The Gold Lakes loop is amazing and beautiful if you enjoy the great outdoors.
Beautiful area, crowded everywhere during summer season.
Gold Lake is a relatively large lake tucked into the Sierras at about 5000 ft. It is surrounded by magnificent mountains and other smaller lakes in the vicinity. Though it has always been too windy for my taste to paddle this lake, it is popular with boaters and fishermen/women and also with campers who use this as a base to explore the Sierras. There are fabulous hiking trails in the area for all abilities and it's a short drive into the Graeagle area for shopping and golf and other pursuits. This area closes in late fall or early winter due to snowfall but usually opens in late June. Reservations are suggested for the handful of camping areas near Salmon and Sardine Lakes as well as Gold Lake. There are also several nice lodges and cabins for those who prefer more comfort. The drive up CA-49 from Nevada City along the Yuba River is beautiful and takes about an hour unless you stop in Downieville or Sierra City to explore.
