This theatre is small, quaint and filled with a variety of plays. The size of the theatre does not reflect the talent in the plays. I recently saw Gunmetal Blues. What a fabulous Play - direction music acting and singing. It is a play that I imagine to be on Broadway with many beautiful sets. However, the only thing missing was the sets. The acting - superb, the play content - witty, the singing - absolutely AMAZING !!Please choose a play and enjoy your evening without fighting a crowd.
Going there for almost 30 years; the last 5 have been good combination of fine talent and good vehicle for them.
I addition to their regular productions, the Rep also offers a Tuesday night stand up comedy event once a month from autumn to spring/early summer, with cut-price drinks and free snacks beforehand. These are hosted by Mark Christopher Lawrence and usually comprise 3 or 4 additional comedy acts. You never know who you are going to get but having been to a lot of these evenings, I always have good 'belly laugh' and come home feeling that I have received real value for money ($20/$17 seniors).Worth checking out if you are in the locality.
We enjoy this theater so much we became donors! The wide variety of plays and the immense talent of the artistic director and the actors are what keep us coming back every year.(and Marty's incredible set designs)Everyone should see a play here, in my opinion this theater outshines La Jolla Playhouse.
We have been annual subscribers for years, in our opinion this theater outshines La Jolla Repertory with its intimate setting and brilliant sets and excellent acting. Artistic director David Ellenstein brings a mix of genius to the play choices and his acting is superb also!
We attended the current production "Perfect Wedding" and were completely entertained. We have attended several productions and all have been great.
We have attended numerous productions over the years, and the North County Rep is a first rate company, with excellent acting and direction. A small venue, but they get the very most out of it with creative staging and set design. This is an opportunity to enjoy outstanding theater, with easy parking and plenty of enjoyable local restaurants.
Went to see PERFECT WEDDING and it was a Hoot ! Very nice theater and worth supporting. The production, from the set to the acting and direction was first rate. Looking forwrd to returning next year.
At the suggestion of a friend, we got tickets to join him on a Friday night for this show. He had told us a bit about the plot and the fact that the theater, which is tucked into the back corner of a shopping center, did not have a bad seat in it. What a pleasant evening we had! The stage set and cast were absolutely professional, and the venue made it feel as if you could reach out and touch the actors. There seems to be a wide variety of shows playing here this season. We hope to get back there soon!
My friend and I attended a matinee of "Words By", a "new musical" about Ira Gershwin. Not your mega stage production at a mega venue with a 30 piece orchestra. It's a 192 seat theatre in a mall - and every seat is a good one. And it was a full house! Acoustics are good. The performers and musicians are as good as they get!! Direction great. It had interesting and amusing facts about Ira (and George) and a lot of WONDERFUL music. But then I like a Gershwin tune (and words). How about you? But it wasn't just Gershwin tunes. He collaborated with several other brilliant composers.I enjoyed this performance as much as anything I've seen at Orange County Performing Arts and Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in L.A. as well as other venues in L.A. Just different - because it's small and intimate. I wanted to hug the performers and thank them. I had won 2 tickets by entering a North County Times on line contest. What a lucky break. 500 had entered and only 10 won. Thank you North County Times. This was my first visit - but it sure won't be my last.Check them out on line. This production has been extended to 11/18.
We have seen wonderful shows here with local talent, as good as larger venues in San Diego. We often go to Shogun or Fish Market for a bite, then see the show. Don't let the fact this is not a large venue deter you from taking up a show here. Every seat is good, as the venue is more intimate. Hope you will try it sometime.
