The Haggin covers local history and culture well, but it's also got an impressive cache of major international artworks. In addition to the largest museum collection of pieces by seminal 20th century commercial artist JC Leyendecker, it possesses works by Gaugin, Renoir, and Albert Bierstadt, among others. The Haggin also hosts visiting exhibits and community events, so there's always something new to enjoy among your old favorites.

What a nice surprise. This museum is a little gem for Stockton. Beautiful artwork and neat exhibits. Tour the museum then picnic in the lovely park. The Haggin is located in a nice upscale area of Stockton. Do make it a point to visit.

Interesting museum and certainly glad we stopped for a couple of hours to check it out. Mixed exhibits of paintings and antiques. Staff of volunteers was very helpful. The location, a city park, put your parking options on the street with a short walk to the museum. The building is both a typical museum high ceilings spaces but has some interesting use of the basement area for both the gift shop and some older pieces of Americana. Recommended.

The Haggin Museum is a great place to appreciate art; learn about California history; and attend special Thurday evening events twice a month--all for a reasonable entrance fee. It's located in a beautiful park with a rose Gardena, duck pong and playground equipment! A great place for a pinic and a family gatherings!

We stayed overnight in Stockton on our way South. The Haggin wa a great find. Lots of all kinds of stuff from a good collection of fine art to old huge farm equipment . Great building in a large park. Something for everyone, including kids. Clearly the highlight of Stockton.

To begin, The Haggin is easy to find being just off the main road Pershing Ave. It is set in a large park area. The day we went there were families enjoying the park, playing soccer and people walking their dogs. There is a rose garden that I think will be beautiful in the spring, granted it is small and a duck pond in the front that kids would most likely enjoy. The inside of the museum is very neat. If you go the first Saturday of the month admission is free ( $8 regular) and the exhibits change throughout the year. Right now the main exhibit is the superhero collection. They have a lot of older paintings from the 1800's upstairs that are very beautiful and downstairs you can see shopfronts that are set up to represent oldtime shops. We saw a Chinese herbalist shop, an old barber shop and a sundries shop that seemed pretty authentic to me. They also had old swords, a collection of old-time guns, a Native American section with clothing and baskets and of course, a gift shop. Plan to spend at least an hour here.

Local history to modern art. Popular temporary exhibits and a fantastic collection of western landscapes and classic great masters. Bring your out of town guests to see one of the many reasons that Stockton is a magnificent place to live.

For a city the size of Stockton, this is an incredible museum. There is an excellent collection of 19th c. paintings, the highlights of which are the Bierstadts and other painters like Bougereau and Jerome. The other half of the museum focuses on local history with fun exhibits. It is worth going out of your way. Nice gift shop too.

I have been enticed into the Haggin Museum with fantastic musical offerings, such as world class jazz and classical recitals. There is really something special listening to such beautiful music surrounded by breath taking art. Even without the music, the Haggin Museum is really under appreciated. Every time I go back in, am regret having waited to so long.

While I wouldn't think Stockton had much to offer, this museum has some great works of art and plenty to see. Would recommend seeing it if you have a few hours.

Stockton may not be high on the tourist's list of places to visit, but this museum is worth a detour thru downtown when traveling up or down the Central Valley. It is packed full of very good value for the modest entry fee and you will be surprized at the quality of the art and history exhibits on display there. As a bonus, it is set in a shady park with a pond, so great for a lunch stop.

I have driven up / down highway #5 dozens of times over the years and never stopped in Stockton. This is a very nice little museum. Certainly didn't expect to see a Gauguin or Renoir but that isn't the reason to stop. Some good artists painting California natural subnets; the displays about Stockton history are good and the recreations of historic rooms like a school room; bar; herbalist shop; etc are really nice. The building is terrific as well. Go Stockton!

The museum is located in a nice park with lakes and lots of ducks. There is a large amount of western and U.S. art going back 200 years, California art and historical displays. One section is devoted to the local history.

The local history is great, and it boasts a wonderful art collection! I love the location in a park by a pond. I grew up going to this museum, and it never disappoints. Now if only the local riff raft would keep the park as clean as they used to maybe it lead more folks to patronize the Haggin.
