We spent the evening learning from the charming Chef Gaby the art of French cooking. We moved from station to station learning how to make lobster bisque, foie gras hanger steak, mushroom risotto and Grand Marnier Souffle. It was delicious!! We walked away with a delightful culinary memory.
I took the Italian Tapas class with my dearest friend, and had such a grand time. We cooked a variety of delicious appetizers under the tutelage of Chef Maria and a troop of assistants. Everything was thoughtfully chosen, and almost all of it was hands-on. We learned so much, and everything was just mouthwatering. Both of us have made almost all of the recipes with great success at home since then. Highly recommended.
Chef Olivier Said was awesome! He is extremely knowledgable, and clearly LOVES to teach and share his accumulated culinary wisdom. Our company held our holiday party here yesterday. We were divided into teams for a sort of Iron Chef competition, with each team being responsible for preparing one dish for everyone to eat, along with a presentation plate for the judges. Each team had a station with a recipe and the ingredients set out, and Chef Said and his sous chefs were circulating to answer questions and offer advice. This was kind of a glimpse into working in a commercial kitchen, with people moving every which way between the pantry, refrigerators and the ranges / ovens. The menu was focused on organic ingredients, and Chef Said went through the ingredients sharing tips on how to select, store, and prepare the various proteins and vegetables. The event was an absolute blast, and everyone had fun regardless of prior cooking experience.
My wife and I have found that while traveling one of the best ways to learn about an area is to pursue food and cooking experiences. Kitchen on Fire offers a wide range of classes and field trips in the Bay Area. I have attended three classes at Kitchen on Fire and think it is one of the best all around ideas for an evening of fun, food and learning in the area. The setting is charming and each time there has been an interesting mix of people of all ages and backgrounds. You eat what you cook so think of it as going out for dinner but it being a "hands on" experience. My most recent class was Pizza. Wow, did I learn a lot tricks. Thank you Kitchen on Fire! This would be fun by yourself, as a couple, on a date or with several couples. It is a fun social setting as well as a quality learning experience.
