2 beautiful but quite different golf courses in the pretty city of Indian Wells. Some of the most stunning views of the surrounding mountains are seen during play. A fair amount of water, but the sand traps abound! The course conditions and maintenance are good. Staff very helpful and friendly from dropping off clubs at the entrance, to directions, to cleaning clubs after play. Pace of play for us on a Friday morning was 4 hours 10 min. Only a bit of waiting. It is pricey, so would check out any discounts, but absolutely worth the dollars for the experience. The clubhouse and VUE restaurant with sports TV screens and outdoor patio provide a nice relaxing setting after golf. Happy hours 7 days a week.
Sunday nights, during the season, the hotel has an excellent Big Band playing songs you can fox trot, East Coast Swing, waltz and tango to. Different styles of music are offered on different nights.
Had the occasion to play both courses while on a recent Palm Springs trip. Could not have been more pleased with the service and course conditions. If I lived in the area, I would play it often. Highly recommended.
We played the Celebrity Course twice and the Champions course once over Valentines Day weekend. The celebrity course is more esthetically pleasing (lots of pretty water holes), the champions course is more difficult (longer/narrower). Both courses were in very good shape but two of the days the pace of play was terribly, ridiculously slow. They give you a card at the starters bench with your start time and will sign after play if you play within a time frame (think it was 4.5 hours) and can be used for discounted drinks/food so they obviously know that there is a pace of play problem. They have a fun 9 hole putting green that is lit at night if you want to play some putt putt. Fantastic inventory of apparel in the golf shop. Nice restuarant bar upstairs with outside seating overlooking the putting greens and part of the celbrity course; they have a fantastic Sunday brunch there. Our golf was included in our room rate at the Renaissance Indian Wells (they cart you over to the course, takes 5 min) so I'm not sure what the greens fees are but these are 2 fantastic muni courses. It would definitely be top rating if not for the pace of play.
The 3 of us played the Celebrity Course. It was very crowded and play was slow on a Friday in February. $170.00 seemed expensive for an Average Experience. Troon Golf is usually very pricey and this was no different. Driving Range had No Tees or Club Cleaning Equipment. Pitching area was across the bridge from the driving range, as was the putting area. Not convenient. They could use more Signs as it was confusing where to go!! Front 9 nothing special, but I did enjoy the Back 9. Much prettier topography and some challenging holes.Again, more Signs on the Course would be very helpful. Many of the holes are extremely close to other holes, so it is easy to get confused.Unfortunately, they had a Freeze prior to our visit and many of the Permanent Plants and Flowers had been killed by the Freeze. To their credit, they did plant a lot of temporary colorful flowers. Most of the recently planted flowers were on the first and last few holes. They do appear to maintain the landscaping well.Don't think I would play it again, at least not for $170.00 a person.
Terrific and challenging resort courses that are in great condition with a really friendly staff. A bit pricey but if you use Golfnow.com you can get much better rates.
My family visits Indian Wells around Christmas almost every year and I have played this course four times now. It is by far one of the best courses I have ever played. It is not cheap, but it is definitely worth the money. Every single detail has been thought of and taken care of. Every flower and tree is perfectly cared for. There are two courses, each with amazing views and landscapes. I left my clubs at home and rented clubs, and they give you nice clubs (Callaway) and a small set of balls. There is a nice bar and grill upstairs with a balcony that wraps around the entire building. After the round we usually sit and have a drink and enjoy the views out over the dessert landscape.
I have played many of the top golf resorts across the U.S. and specifically the Southwest and Indiian Wells takes a back seat to very few. The two courses here are very challenging and even more beautiful. For a desert landscape the amount of trees, flowers and shrubbery lining the holes was nothing short of amazing. At times I felt like I was back home in the forests of Minnesota. Quite an accomplishment for being smack dab in the middle of the desert. The course conditions and quality staff made the experience even more special. If you are contemplating a golf outing to the deserts of Arizona or California this is a "do not miss" location!
I don't play golf, but I wanted to review this golf course because it was so beautiful. I went with my boyfriend while he played and we were on the "players" course. It has some desert-type landscaping and incredible views of the mountains in the background. Even though I didn't play, there was a 20 dollar fee for me to go with. It was like spending 5 hours in a very pretty park just looking at the scenery, so for me, it was worth it. My boyfriend enjoyed the golf, so an overall win. I was told that the "celebrity" course is less desert-like and shorter than the "players", if the length and desert scenery aren't your thing.
As intimidating as it is beautiful. From the waterfall over the front entry to the manicured course, every aspect was first rate. The service was impeccable from the bag pick-up at your vehicle, to the pro-shop, to the restaurant, to the on course staff. We felt that our visit was important to them. I wish I was a better golfer. I will definitely return.
Great course for an average handicap player. Views are outstanding. Service was good, and like most Troon courses, play moves along. Finished the round in 4:30. A lot of fun. Would play again.
Professional friendly staff. Made our visit very enjoyable even in low season we were treated to top level service. We will be back.
Fun course. Suggest you get an early tee time to avoid the blistering heat especially before October.
Great experience from arrival to leaving! Amazing facility, staff, practice range and course! Played the "Celebrity Course"! The course from tee to green was in immaculate, dare I say perfect condition...!! =) Greens were true, semi fast and held everything I threw at them 3 iron to wedges! Special mention to the most awesome "cart girl" ever! Filled our ice cups everytime she came by...!!! Can't wait to come back and play the "Players Course"!
We played the players course and it was a great experience from the valet to the starter to the beverage guy. The golf course was in awesome shape for hot summer weather and very reasonable priced to play. You had to keep your ball in the middle and hit the greens. The greens were nice and the ball rolled well. It was a hot day and the beverage cart guy (John) made sure your cup was full of water and ice and always had a smile. It was a great golf experience and a great course to add the my golf list. We would loved to try the other course.
