If you like to get off the beaten path, the trip through Holcomb Valley and the early prospecting days is a delight. There are a few cabins left, tailings, grave site and of course, the Hqngman's Tree. It's a great way to spend an afternoon with the kids away from the hustle and bustle.

In attempting to recreate realism, I suppose this tree is as real as it will get in showing how "justice" or the lack of it was carried out during the gold rush days. It makes for interesting viewing and does lend an air of credibility of what happened to those who ran afoul of the "law" during those rough and tumble days, so why not just let it stand as a depiction of what was. The kids love it anyway!!People need to remember the trail is a depiction of what was a gold mining community and encampment in the gold rush days. Time has taken its toll and some things are not 100 percent historically accurate, but as close as nature and preservationists can come with limited resources, while mother nature grinds away relentlessly day atnd nightFully handicap accessible. No problem with strollers except rough surface.

nice drive on the gold discovery trail, but the hangman's tree is not the actual tree they hung people from. it has been cut down and is in a different area. why have this place marked??
