big bear solar observatory

There aren't many solar observatories in So Cal. This one on the Lake is small, but really interesting. Find out in advance when their visitor hours are and definitely do the tour.

Nice to look at, BUT... You can not get anywhere near it, gated off with watch dog. Does not offer tours anymore unfortunately.

Beautiful to view from the lake but they offer no tours so to get a good idea of what goes on inside watch the local Big Bear TV channel for an interesting guided tour of the facility.

My visit to this Observatory was one of the best in my history. I really appreciate the time devoted to explain everything and the quality of the work that the staff there is performing.
