What's not to love?On Saturday, go to the market on Hamilton, behind the post office. This is P.A.'s original market. On Sunday, go to the market on S. California Ave and Birch. (Maybe this is what the previous poster that mentioned University Ave. is mistakenly talking about). I know more about the newer Cal Ave. market. The bounty on display here is amazing! There are flowers, fruits, vegetables, canned things, fish, chickens, eggs, etc...Sometimes, you can get hard-to-find varieties of things you've only read about in cookbooks.Grab some food at Oaxacan Kitchen (fresh tortillas, mole!) or Esther's German Bakery (pretzels, strudel!). I'm sure that the others are great, these are just my favorites. And all around you, there are great restaurants and shops.A beautiful way to spend a Sunday morning!
The prices might be a little high, but the selection is outstanding! Check out the little gem lettuces and the variety of peppers! Also wonderful pastries from Karen's.
This is a very good way to see what the community offers, but finding parking is very difficult. Use parallel streets along University Ave.
The farmer's market is actually on University Ave.You have your usual stalls selling peaches, nectarines, prunes; berries; oranges; veggies, etc. Lots of fruit to try!Further down the street you find the cheeses and olive oils, other artisanal California products. At the end you have the cooked food with roast chicken & baby potatoes, cones (savoury ones - an interesting invention), etc.Love it how it's on an actual street with shops on the side, instead of in a parking lot or field.Easy & convenient.
