If you can get on the course, it's a treat. Even has scenic views of SF skyline from the 18th tee box. I like the grill at the course for breakfast or lunch too.

The course used to be open for students, now it seems to be open only for Stanford students. Visitors need to have a Stanford faculty member, spouse to one or other person that can serve as host.Even after that the greenfee is pretty heavy at 120 USD. The course is however beautifully set. The first teeoff is across the heavily trafficked Junipero Serra Blvd.Then there are many river crossings. The first 7 holes are north of Junipero Serra Blvd (campus side) the others climb the hill south of it towards the Dish. Many views towards the peninsula ridge.Greens were in good condition, however much firmer than the practice green by the clubhouse.

Stanford U. GC is a great track. The course is always in first class condition, and the greens are fabulous. The NCAA plays many of their golf tournaments at this location. The course is quite challenging, and the folks in the Pro Shop are First Class. Enjoy.

If you like old school golf courses that are designed to be challenging, interesting, fair and has great character you should play Stanford. It has excellent maintenance, and the greens are beautiful. It is not a tricked up course to attract tourist, it is a straight forward well laid out course that makes you think about every shot. I am a 14 handicap, 82 years old, average drive about 220-230 yards and it is very payable for me from the white tees. I have played it many times and always excited when I can Play it. You will not be bored or stressed out by artificial and unnecessary obstacles that is a part of so many of the so called modern, upscale courses.

We have been in the search for the terrific cheeseburger. The requirements were that we could drive to it easily and park easily. We tried the hamburger at the cafe at Stanford University's golf course and it wins, hands down. Run by Coupa Cafe they have a wonderful menu and a delightful setting with a view. Our search for a terrific cheeseburger was fulfilled and we will return often. The golfing is for Stanford affiliates but the cafe is open to the public.

Four of us ladies played as a warm up for a local ladies' tournament in Carmel. We are average golfers and found the course both beautiful and challenging. There are a number of "carries" off the tee, which was a little hard for those who aren't long hitters. There also are 5 par-threes. We ate lunch at the adjacent clubhouse-restaurant. My grilled cheese and tomato sandwich was great. The soups were tasty as well. The course was in good shape and you can walk or ride, although walking is a little hilly. Reservations can be made in advance, but I believe you must be associated with Stanford University, i.e., staff, faculty, student, etc. A pleasant outing for us all.

My wife and I had the honor and privilege of being guests at a golf tournament held at Stanford University last week. Just setting foot on the course where Tiger Woods and Michelle Wee walked on was very special. We had a box lunch provided before our round as well as a superb dinner provided by the clubhouse restaurant. The course had just enough challenge and forgiveness. The staff was courteous and professional; the facilities immaculate. We look forward to returning again in the near future.

My understanding is that this course is not open to the public, for play. Those with Stanford affiliations and their guests can play. There is a little clubhouse that is freely open to the public, but I wouldn't consider it worth a visit by itself.

A golf course with an Equestrian Red Barn, Observatories and the Dish as background is hard to beat though the greens were wicked and the gopher holes in some of the bunkers were impressive

Excellent shape, great tradition, not an easy course to manage, and an overall great experience. Only downside that comes with a privilege of being a Stanford student or an alum, you could get stuck behind a group that has no clue, and wait times could be not for the impatient ones.

his is one of the most beautiful courses I've played and I've been fortunate enough to play a lot of lovely courses. It also is the first course I've had a birdie on!!It was easy organizing a tournament here and the staff was pretty responsive. It does have the country club feel and they take good care of their guests.

I've played here about 25 times as a member's guest and love it because the holes are all very different, interesting, and challenging. The course is quite hilly, so make sure you're in shape if you're going to walk. Good luck parring #6 & #12. The course hosts some top collegiate events, include the Pac 10 Championship, and they can whip this into US Open conditions in a heartbeat.You can only play if you're a guest of a student or member.

The course itself is fantastic, and especially on the back nine you can enjoy amazing views. Pretty expensive for the general public, but an absolutely awesome deal for Stanford students. It costs only $25 for students with ID. Another great option is the twilight round, which costs only about $13 for students.

My husband and I play every chance we can when we are in the area. Had a beautiful round. Course was in good shape.

You have to be connected or lucky to play the Stanford course. It is an excellent course that, IMHO, acts more like a public course in that it isn't country clubby. What most people don't know is that the club house accommodates all kinds of kids sports teams from the area at low rates. Check it out.
