Interesting area. Short drive down a gravel road. You probably will not want to spend more than 10 or 15 minutes at the parking area but take the time for this short drive.
Great salt spires that are created from the erosion. Very interesting area and you can walk around but just be careful can be a bit treacherous!
We drove by this on our way to Badwater Basin. Quite unique and interesting abutting the Panamint Mountain Ridge.
The road is fine for sedans. Loved the lumpy formations as far as you could see, and the way they looked like caves when you got up close - totally mess with your sense of perspective. Definitely get out of the car and walk a little way among them to see the detail.
Take the time and drive in on the rough road. You simply can't get the full experience from the main road. The course is actually a salt bed that curls up in hand sized pockets liked a golf course. Very interesting.
Right at milepost 11 on Badwater Road south of Furnace Creek, is the turn off to the Devil's Golf Course. Drive down the mile and a half dirt road to the parking area, get out and start exploring! The salt crystals are beautiful, however, are very sharp and hard, so be careful walking out among them. If you trip and fall, you'll have a scar to remember them by, to be sure. There are some more delicate salt crystal growths out there, but you have to be patient to find them. Be sure and take your camera along!
I loved the Devil's Golf Course. You travel down a decent, little dirt road which takes you into the heart of the Course. Get out and walk among the deposits. Be careful not to trip and fall. These rock and salt formations are hard and unforgiving. When we went, hardly anyone was there. Most everyone bypassed this area. Their loss because this was a great.
wow..its really a place for devil, not for humans ;) the drive is pretty easy in a sedan car and its easy to locate
we enjoyed the golf course. It wasnt far off the road and the salt formations very interesting. We walked out among them and had an enjoyable ten minutes exploring. It is worth the short detour.
we visited the devil's golf course from the west side road. nobody was around and it made for very interesting pictures. good time is at sunset
You reach this spot down a short unpaved road to a parking lot off Badwater Rd. What you are basically looking at are surreal salt formations left behind after the ancient seabed dried out. What is most amazing about them is how hard they are, with very sharp edges which would really hurt sold you fall. You are allowed to step out into or, rather onto it, but the going is like in a newly ploughed field, except very hard and unyielding. This is one of those spots which is definitely worth seeing - once; not spectacular but intriguing. Takes just a few minutes of your time, so go take a look.
We stopped here along our route. It is a fantastic stop off, the salt formations here are so odd it's like nothing on earth and feels like you should be in space. We walked a few steps in for a nice photo but be careful as the salt formations are sharp and I wouldn't fancy falling on them.
The road to the Devil's Golf Course was the only unpaved road we took to the different attractions in Death Valley. It was fortunately for the suspension of my car, not a very long drive. It was pretty amazing to see a landscape of such jagged rocks stretching for miles around, most of them topped with a layer of salt. It's called the Devil's Golf Course because " only the devil could play golf on such rough links!"
We didn't take the road down to this place, but from the road, it was hard to view. I think it could be interesting, but maybe a bit hard on cars to get to.
No words or pictures can describe how beautiful, amazing, and frightful Devil's Golf Course is. It seems like you step out of your car into another planet--the salt craters on the ground seem like they go on forever. It is eerie and beautiful at the same time. Take lots of pictures. P.S. This is in the middle of Death Valley so make sure you take lots of water if you go when it's hot since there will not be any water at this location.
