we enjoyed the tasting but there was nothing about this winery and the wine that set it apart from others in the surrounding area. The area outside the building with seating under trees was nice. Restrooms felt a bit like an 'outhouse'. Again, ok.
We stopped at Buttonwood Farm Winery last week and had a great time there. The tasting room is comfortable and the "pourers" are quite friendly-no snobs here. I recommend tasting the estate collection, which is $15 for 5 or 6 different wines vs. $10 for their "standard" wines. The assortment of reds and whites was quite good and we loved their 2012 Pinot Noir enough to bring some home. There is a very pleasant outdoor area where you can walk around or just sit and sip. The farm has lots of peach trees and herbs and they also sell some of their homeade products. We sampled and immediately bought their yummy peach bbq sauce and can't wait use use it.
The tasting room is located within a farm, so it is surrounded by a beautiful garden and picnic tables. There are plenty of trees and privacy. We went with our 2 and 4 year old kids, and had a picnic in the garden while we did the wine tasting. It works great because the kids can eat and run around while you can go to the tasting room and get a wine one at a time, and enjoy it outside. FYI kids are allowed in the tasting room too, but I chose to be outside. The wines are good. They have a very interesting Malbec, with more "character" and a little bit more spicy that those from Mendoza. Their sauvignon blanc is fresh and smells like happiness. I was not a white wine person but now I'm a convert.Great place. Don't miss it.
We stopped at this winery for a tasting. Everyone who worked there was extremely nice and helpful. The wines were superb and I was impressed that they were more then willing to give recommendations within the area as well which helped us plan out the rest of our day.
We visited many wineries in the area and this one did not make it to the top of our list. The wine was average, the setting was cozy, but overall just not that impressed.
Buttonwood always has good wine to taste and buy, fruit products and other interesting things to purchase. When in the Santa Barbara area I would recommend you visit their farm and winery.
Came here for a wine dinner. Karen the winemaker was knowledgeable and delightful and the wines were very good! Really loved the rose! Will come back again when in the area.
This Winery has a lovely patio and back yard to enjoy your wine. The peach orchards are directly behind the tasting room
Small place but pleasant. The gentleman working was laid back - maybe a little too much. He did explain the product but I don't think it mattered whether we were there or not. I think it was getting close to closing time - nobody else was there. Sat outside on the bench and tasted our wine. It was very peaceful.
A great place to start a day of touring wineries. Light, tasty wines served in a comfortable environment. There were several families outback picnicking and tasting/sampling the Buttonwood wines. Laid back and restful. great staff.
They were very welcoming. Encouraged us to view the garden, working ranch and vineyards. The tasting was average. I enjoy their rose. It's a very beautiful set-up, welcoming, unpretentious and the sommeliers are informative and ready to answer your questions.
Great experience! Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Wines were fabulous. Setting incredible. This place would definitely merit a return trip.
We stopped by for some wine and the place was very charming, farm style and a bit of english cottage in back. The atmosphere was good here except for a moldy wet sponge smell in the tasting room. The first of our tastings was done outside and the last was inside. Outside was much better. Seemed the college kids serving it didn't really get into wine and simply spouted off what they knew (just a gut feeling here). Inside the lady was too engaged in a couple to pay us much attention but it seemed a bit rude. The wines, well I've had worse quality and taste. It wasn't to my liking, dry and not enough body for me. It seems dry is the style in this area though and I've had my share of poorly crafted wine...this was not the case. I liked their Sav Blanc and I usually don't care for it. They had another rose, dry but good character. I would stop by if you are in the area regardless. The reviews seem spotty but you never know unless you try for yourself. Great pics to be taken in the back garden and you can spend as much time relaxing as you like.
Went for the peaches, definitely not the wine....they are organic and tasted wonderful!! We've tried the wine before...there are other wineries we like better
My husband and I visited Buttonwood for the first time after reading about the winery and farm. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about their wines and the wine making process. The tasting costs $10 for 7 wines (including the glass) and is a very good value these days. (Personally, I'm delighted that wineries charge for tastings--it prevents many from just guzzling wine for all the wrong reasons.) Seven wines is a lot of wine for me so we shared a tasting. Our host kindly served us two additional tastes after we shared our familiarity with wine--it was quite enjoyable. Because it is a working farm that grows fruit, Buttonwood sells products made from their fruits. Also, they are one of the very few wineries that produces Ver Jus so we picked up a bottle along with a couple of bottles of their wines. We don't really care if wines are "rated", we care more about how we enjoy the taste and balance of the wines and the opportunity to learn more about the wine making process. Some of their wines we liked better than others but that's true of most of the wineries we visit. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and it would be a nice location to have a picnic another time. We heard that the farm sells peaches so we returned the next day and bought some absolutely delicious, juicy fresh organic peaches! Worth stopping and learning more about wines!
