My family and I use the River Trail weekly. My daughter and I like to run it on the weekends. It has a very beautiful 5.5 mile loop that we run but you can pick whatever distance you want. It runs into the Rail Trail that is a really beautiful paved trail that runs all the way up to Shasta Dam. My family uses those trails for bike riding and running all year around. I have lived in Redding 23 years and never get tired of the view on the trail. Add to that the unique and beautiful Sun Dial Bridge which is part of the River Trail and you have a great place to bring visitors or just go enjoy the beauty.

The rail trail is a nice level trail along the Sacramento River between Keswick Lake and Shasta Dam. Following an old rail bed, the trail offers the added bonus of passage through an old rail tunnel. The trail can be reached by car at the Keswick boat launch or as part of a longer ride beginning with the Sacramento River Trail in Redding. For recreational opportunities, it's hard to beat free for value.

We just returned from a nice walk with our dog Gracie. We usually enter via the Sundial Bridge, which we did again today. An alternative for us is to park in the Elks Lodge parking lot, which has more hill-like grades. In either case it is always a beautify ride or walk. The river view and greenery are always a pleasure to behold.

The river trails system goes for miles and miles around the Sacramento river, all the way to the dams. Thats a fair hike or ride on a bike. The best part is it can be done in chunks, with loops trails and such to get in a hike in Nature and spend however much time you have available.Cool in the summer along the water, Morning or evenings and safe and easy walking.

The Sacramento Rail Trail is peaceful and relaxing, whether you walk or ride it. And it is easy for kids and adults alike.

We got the map of bike trails for Redding ... let me say that they have a LOT of bike trails ... Kudos to you Redding! However ... you might want to re-think the 'easy' designation of this trail. Easy can be a subjective term. My husband is a fairly active 55 year old dirt bike rider and did find it easy. But I'm a 60 year old 'pleasure biker' and it was NOT easy. Your first clue came on the trailhead at Keswick Dam which calls the hill 'heartrate hill'. I knew I was probably in trouble then. It's a LONG ride uphill. I made it (barely) most of the way ... had to walk some as well. When we got to the 'top' tho I figured it would level out. Not so much. It soon went way down in the valley again and I assume it would then have another long, long ride up again. At this point I had to turn back. It IS lovely up there ... I wish I could have done the whole thing but unless you're either young or really fit ... this is a grunt. It's all paved tho ... so maybe I'm just a wimp but even in lowest gear It's still ... not 'easy'.

The Sacramento River Trails is one of the true highlights of Redding. The trail is immaculately maintained and runs along the Sacramento River for several miles. Great place to walk, run or bike and enjoy the fabulous scenery. We love riding our bikes over the Sundial Bridges and all along this great trail

This is a wonderful trail for biking. Redding is to be complemented for the great hiking and biking trails in the city. We returned to the city and spent several days visiting just to visit the great biking trails. We will return because of these trails. Some are easy, some are hard, but all are great. They are also good for hiking.

The Sac River trail is in the heart of Redding. It is the life of outdoor goodness! We love to walk and ride the trail and watch the salmon at the fish viewing window when the are spawning. The city keeps the trail well maintained and beautiful year round.

We have lived here for two years and continue to be surprised by the trail options in this area. It's great for bikers and hikers!

but, watch out for the people on bikes. it's like a small two-lane road(fully Paved) but no line, so, stay on the correct side of the road. It's still great and you walk with the Sacramento river. It's cool---even on a hot redding day. we venture out there once in a while and then go across the "turtle Bay bridge" and grad a coffee at the park entrance. Lot's of parking and just a great place to go and meet people and dogs alike

The best feature of living in Redding is the Sacramento River Trail. Bikers and walkers enjoy this trail on a daily basis. A 6 mile beautiful walk starts at Court Street past Keswick Dam. Be sure to check out the Sundial Bridge over the river... beautiful.
