We enjoyed our visit to the museum while trying to see the Albino buffalo that lives in the pasture there.

Picture an open area with hills and coulees and native grassland. Add a museum full of displays depicting everything to do with bison (buffalo) and a lot of First Nations artifacts from the plains culture, as well as related history --- there's even a full-size teepee! Outside, people can enjoy a replica ghost town, with a picnic area, and of course the giant bison/buffalo statue. If you're lucky, you might even get to see White Cloud (the true albino bison/buffalo), with one of her offspring and other members of her herd, which roam freely in the large compound. We'd highly recommend a visit to this site, for anyone traveling to the Jamestown, ND, area!

This is a small but well-presented museum of all things buffalo: from pre-historic to present day. Some of the signage and interpretive are a bit dated and some artifacts (particularly in the last two rooms) are lacking any description whatsoever. A beautiful collection of antique handguns is also in desperate need of proper display. Nonetheless, this was a nice little museum with good, solid information and actually bigger than I expected. I found their interactive exhibit of animal pelts (and parts) for children quite clever. $5 is the perfect admission for this unique stroll through frontier history.

It looks OK. We didn't pay the $5 to go into the museum but bought some trinkets to bring home. We did go in search of the albino buffalo and found her hid out in a thicket.

We went to go and see the museum when we got into town. Would have to say it is a little tiny but it is perfect for my very fast browser child. It has a lot of unique and interesting items in it. Decent priced for a family to go thru it.

We went just to check it out and its nothing special. It not very big. It has different furs you can touch, arrow heads, paintings, some older guns. Nothing to make them stand out in my opinion. You may or may not see the buffalo. Best view is from the highway and its free.

Well-mounted displays, great curation, interest for all ages ( possibly excepting active toddlers who aren't interested in anything where they can't run around.) I was very intrigued by the exhibits, the pride of history, and I grew up in a city of BIG museums. No overload, but good info and exhibits!

So glad we stopped! The unique large buffalo sculpture is a great photo op! The frontier town is also worth the browsing and interesting in that the famous western writer Louis L'amour is from Jamestown! The museum is very well done and quite a good size. Some beautiful pieces on display as well as historic pieces. All kept going with donations from local townspeople and organizations. Well worth the stop!

This is such a profound subject in the history of North America and especially the plains. Growing up here, I was not so aware of that, but since then I have grown to appreciate how important it is. And this museum covers so much of that history and science. Don't miss it!

Despite being advertised as free, there's a $5 per person charge to enter the museum and buffalo viewing area. The museum was not bad - but I only really paid to access the viewing area - which was rubbish. The buffalo were way out in the distance, and of course the white buffalo was nowhere to be seen (as the sign warns you, once you've paid). A much better view of the herd was to be had from near the Giant Buffalo statue (which is free!) - or indeed in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which was worth every cent. This place was ok - but did feel quite ripped out by the museum and 'viewing deck'. The pioneer village was quite cool as was the giant statue. If going back, I wouldn't bother with the museum (the staff weren't particularly friendly) or viewing area (waste of time).

The huge buffalo was great, and the little recreated village was interesting. Louis L'Amour's office was nicely done. The staff at the Museum were not helpful or friendly and the buffalo weren't out for viewing so we didn't pay to go through the Museum.

It's free to visit frontier village and a small free for the museum $5. They have some great little stores in original old buildings from the 1800's. Most of the items in the stores are made by local artists and I found alot of great gifts. The museum is small but worth a one time visit and they sell buffalo meat in the main entry (Frozen) it is delicious btw. All in all its fun to spend an hour or two looking around. And dont forget they have the largest buffalo in the world there.

We were travelled to Jamestown for an event so we had to check out the big buffalo. There is a cute little remake of an old towne set up on the grounds to get to the big buffalo. They are worth stopping in for a couple of minutes and checking out. We went to the actual museum and gift shop to purchase a magnet. In order to read the history and see the museum you go in a room off the gift shop that cost $5. We thought we saw enough so we didn't pay the money to read about the buffalo history. In my opinion you have to stop here and get your picture with the big buffalo if you are travelling through Jamestown.

Neat old town village to wander through. Massive buffalo to pose with and several roaming buffalo to watch. Including a white one. The goats and horses hanging out behind the town buildings was a neat surprise. Good if you enjoy history.

We we're able to stay long but checked out the Museum and 'little town' that surrounded the facility. Fun to explore the past. Our kids loved it too!
