Built in 1942, this building is home to the annual Sauerkraut Day held yearly on the second Wednesday of October. Imagine rock and stone hauled from surrounding farms and then chisled to fit. A must see example of WPA/CCC build.

We've stopped by this site several times just to marvel at the history and architecture it embodies. A city of Wishek page (http://www.wishek-nd.com/cityinfo/civic-center.html) provides some background. Built of fieldstone hauled in from local farms, the building was completed in 1942 and became the center of public life in the town. The stonework was meticulous, and the concrete work, too, was high quality - note the distinctive buttresses. Last week we had the privilege of participating in a meeting headquartered in the Wishek Civic Center, and thus also became familiar with its striking interior. The arched rafters are impressive as to heft and beautiful as to hue. What an asset to the city of Wishek! Definitely worth the drive over for anyone interested in historic architecture. While there you can walk across the block, get some ice cream from the McTwist, and sit down by the Wishek Badger.
