Had a couple hours to kill before going to Seatac for a flight. The place was very fun, and had great views. But it is definitely not a place to go alone. Take someone with you.
Of course, the very best is to visit when the spring shrubs and trees are in their glory, but there is no bad time to visit the grounds and buildings at Lakewold. Staff and volunteers keep the natyral beauty looking natural, rarely a leaf out of place ! Vista after vista astounds you; marvel at the plantings and history and watch our local eagles soar around the lake, Perfect special event venue -- very accommodating, experienced event planners save you stress and money and allow you to feel as pampered as your guests.
Wonderful place to visit, always changing, Volunteers always needed. The flowers and fauna are glorious no matter what the season. Their gift shop is delightful, and all the volunteers who help keep the gardens up are wonderful.
This is a perfect place to talk and catch up with a friend or family member. I havent seen my daughter in 6+ months and we talked all day here. And the views are amazing.
Very pretty gardens around a nice estate home. Would have had a lovely lake view when originally built but the trees have grown up and blocked some view areas. Nice wander through the gardens thought.
Lakewold was a family home and garden for over 75 years before opening to the public in 1989. It is a place to experience serenity, learn about local history, and view the beauty at any time of the year. Nice gift shop and plant sale area too!
Lakewold Gardens is an historical gem in this community. Beautiful historic gardens and house. Guided tours are great for the novice gardener or group as well as those with knowledge of Northwest trees and plants. A gift shop with a small select availability of plant materials is offered. There is an entry fee assessed at the Gift Shop. Lakewold has something to offer every season of the year with the rhodies spectacularly in view in the spring
I arrived at Lakewold last July excited for my wedding. I was taken aback to be greeted by Lakewold's event coordinator who yelled at me for 15 minutes because my vendors arrived early. (They were nervous about the short window allowed for them to setup. The event coordinator gave them the okay to arrive early!). She works under the fear of a boss who micromanages the staff and lacks people skills. The venue has so many restrictions and the staff lacks the creativity and resources needed for your wedding or special event. If you want a beautiful setting with courteous, knowledgeable, and professional staff, the Tacoma Golf and Country Cub is the place to go!
The grounds are well taken care of the staff is friendly. Flowers were beautiful. Great how they have preserved the house and use it for events and offices.
Amazing place! Soul-soothing, & just plain wonderful. Flowers, green grass and trees, beautiful historical house & grounds.
This estate with its lakeside location and grounds of decades old trees, azaleas and rhodys is a gardener's delight to visit. The on-site garden shop is very cute and well stocked, with items any gardener would appreciate. The gounds invite one to pack a picnic and spend some time.
My husband & I went to the gardens during late spring early summer. We were both dissapointed. There are places that my husband couldn't go, because it was not handicapped accessible. He would have wanted to see the inside of the mancion. The rodies were gorgeous, but we are used to going to bigger gardens, I guess.
If you go in the spring, you'll see an abundance of beautiful rhododendrons, many of them fragrant. It's a lovely place.
This is a pretty garden, especially if you go when the rhodies are blooming, however, it is pretty small. Set aside, AT MOST 1.5 hours - unless you are REALLY, REALLY into gardens...
The gardens are well kept and the staff is gracious and knowledgeable. I always find new plants to put in my garden. It is a large property that takes time to visit. I have been there four times over the years.
