We were in a hurry and did have the time to do this place justice. Just drove through it for a bit. Gorgeous setting, awesome trees. Must return.
We were lucky enough to be visiting on the Fall and also lucky enough to have a lovely sunny day to see it. The tree colours were fantastic and the scenery spectacular.
Beautiful clear water. Mountain peaks around the lake. Small pebbles on the beach - not sand! Well-marked swimming area. Not too crowded. And for me, childhood memories of Bluebird camp!
Took a side trip from Leavenworth to Wenatchee National Forest (about 15-20 min drive away). Went for a hike through the trails (including by some of the campsites - nice big sites & well tended) then went for a swim in the lake. Very clean and clear. Not too cold, just right after a long hike on a hot day. Camp store on site for ice cream, drinks, sandwiches and boat/SUP rentals...plus some camp supplies. Nice picnic area by the lake, including some shady spots out of the sun. Nice place to spend the afternoon with the kids & family.
If you like hiking, fishing, remote wilderness locations during the summer and many snow activities in the winter, this is the place for.
Ok, so it took an hour of slow driving to get to the falls (and another hour to return back to the highway), but it was worth the time. We were there in June, and the water was flowing well. Absolutely beautiful. The trail is very well maintained and is well done. There are some rather steep areas for novice middle-age + hikers like us, but nothing really difficult. Although we did not realize until we finished the hike, it is a 1.8 mile round-trip loop. You are supposed to stay to the right on the way up and then loop back on the left on the way down. If you've got the time on your excursion to Wenatchee, this is a great stop. We've been to Yosmite and Rocky Mountains National Park, and there is no doubt in our mind, this was the best short waterfall hike of them all.
With the stoppage of logging, the revenue for the National Forests has diminished to the point where maintenance of roads is becoming non existent. For many years logging was done with care for the forest and the land, and provided an excellent balance of nature, access and recreation opportunities. Moreover, the goal of the Forest Service now seems to be to keep people out of the forest, with many road closures and an indifferent attitude at best.
Go to Leavenworth ( one of my favorite places) then stop at Deception Falls (a must see)! Beautiful, peaceful & free
Elevation of 4100' on hwy 97 from Leavenworth to Cle Elum. Watch the summit as it can get icy. Pretty views from beginning to end. Two lanes in most spots.
Lots to do, breath taking scenery, fall is absolutely beautiful
If you need information on different ranger districts or want trail, camping or fire information the Wenatchee National Forest is one of the best places to go to get what you need!
There are so many peaceful areas in the Wenatchee Nat'l Forest. It is beautiful. There has been a disease that has killed many trees but seeing nature come back to replace what was lost is fascinating.
