My wife and I stopped in yesterday for the first time at Jacob Williams Winery. The tasting room attendant was second-to-none! She was friendly, knowledgeable and very welcoming. We have been to an innumerable number of wineries and this attendant was exceptional!! Both my wife and I were very impressed. We also thoroughly enjoyed the wines and of course, Sadie the wine dog. Overall, a great experience! We will be back.
Great Reds. We stopped by Sunday, Rachel served as - excellent customer service, treated us very well. some of the larger wineries treat wine tasters like you are a number. Not at Jacob Williams. If you want to enjoy the best of what the Gorge has to offer - make JW a "must stop"Also one of the best views of the Gorge
Admittedly, we stopped in on a weekday -- when we arrived we were the only ones in the tasting room, when we left there were three other groups tasting. Within a couple of minutes, we felt like old friends with the young man sharing the wine, he told his personal experiences with it in addition to what one normally gets with a wine tasting (scents of blackberry, tones of tannin, etc.) The pours were generous and the conversation fun.Eventually, we asked if we could buy a glass of our favorites and eat a sack lunch... he said we could stay inside in the A/C or use their outdoor patio area. The patio area and a second tasting venue are newly constructed. He gave us the wifi password and we worked in the beauty of the vineyard, enjoying wine and a sandwich. Very idyllic!
The views of the Columbia River with Mount Hood in the background topped off the fine wines. My favorite was the 2010 Merlot, with an astonishing flavor. Best wine i have had for a long time.
I realize that we all have different tastes in wine and maybe our loyalty towards Brad and company might play a role in overlooking the unfinished facilities but you all need to know that their wine is some of the best in this region. The best cabernet sauvignon and merlot around and rivals some of the best from Napa. If you have any experience with wine, you will definitely appreciate Jacob Williams.
We visited Jacob Williams as a result of a "passport" of local wineries provided by our hotel. It had a great view of the Columbia River, good wine and a nice little tasting room. We would recommend it.
This is the best wine I have ever had. That is probably why the merlot won BEST RED WINE from the NW wine summit. I don't know WHAT the other people were thinking when they wrote their reviews. It truly is amazing.
i think it was the father of the winery owner who helped us. He was delightful, but poured the wine so fast we didn't really enjoy the view out the window, or the wine. I don't know if there was a tasting fee or not. We bought a bottle of wine to support the effort made by the father. Unfortunately the grounds are not tidy. The winery is surrounded by beautiful fruit trees and has a wonderful view of the Columbia River. No grass, and lots of weeds. We are not a fan of the large wineries with the fancy tasting rooms. However, we believe if you are going to open a tasting room, and sell your wines, please talk to us about them. Gives us folks, who want to support you, a little bit of your time.
We conducted an online search of wineries in the Columbia Gorge & came across Jacob Williams. They have nice looking website. The winery is just off WA Hwy 14 a few miles west of Maryhill. The tasting room is surrounded by fruit trees. The tasting room 'manager' told us they don't grow their own grapes, instead buying them from local growers. We went on a very windy day, so there was no outside seating. The site looks like a work in progress, but with nothing happening at present. The view is first class, but unfortunately the wines are not. It may be better in a couple of years' time.
