Attended the grand re-opening last weekend. What an amazing experience. On that day had over 20 eagle sightings in the air over the Center for Birds of Prey. The eagles also knew what a special day it was and decided to fly over for a look at us humans. We enjoyed the birds, the flight demonstration and the outstanding staff who have an enormous passion for our feathered friends. The added bonus was seeing a bald eagle, who was treated for lead poisoning, be released. Thank you to this facility for all they do.

My husband and I spent almost three hours at the Birds of Prey Center. Watched five or six kinds of birds out in the open, being out through their paces. Falcons, hawks, owls, kites, vultures. Swooping and diving around the field and trees.nthere are also lots of birds in cages. The folks there are knowledgeable and friendly. I will bring my out of town family there when they visit this summer.

Very well done, educational opportunity for families looking for a change of pace (from the beach). They offer a different, close up look at all the birds , & offer tours and demonstrations of the different birds in flight. The staff is very informative and helpful. It is located only 4 miles North of Mt. Pleasant, on 17 North , on the right. Just past the Tractor Supply store, take a right on Seewee Road, & follow the signs. The owls and eagles alone are well worth a visit.

If you love birds or even if you are indifferent it is worth the trip. There tons of birds here and the setting is amazing. The staff there are amazing and you will learns stuff you never knew. Do not miss the live demonstration. It is worth the visit all in its own. A must see.

We were lucky enough to get a heads up to go to The Center for bit of Prey when visiting the Charleston/Mt. Pleasant area and it was well worth the visit! We arrived around 10:10 a.m. for the 10:30 a.m.hour long tour which was followed by an hour long bird flight demonstration. All aspects of the center were interesting, educational and even amazing at times! There were 2 volunteers who each had a bird on their arm when we first got to the center and they began our visit with some good introductions about the birds and the work at the center. Our first guide gave us all an excellent overview of the birds that they have rescued and trained and then several people participated in the flight demonstrations over a large field area which we observed from a bleacher area. We were lucky to have a sunny and a bit breezy day which was the perfect environment to view the various birds in flight...ranging from an owl to a raptor to a kite to a hawk. This was truly an inspirational place in which to see some amazing birds in an up close and personal way while being educated as to how to help preserve and protect these amazing creatures!

Other than being a little difficult to find, the center really has no other cons. It provides education to the public about all sorts of birds of prey from eagles to vultures. They have a demonstration program which is entertaining. (I could tell by the visiting school kids.) They have an extensive exhibit with birds that are unable to be returned to the wild. On top of that, they provide rescue and vet services to injured birds from all over.

This center provides a truly fun and inspiring experience. I highly recommend planning on visiting during a tour time - the wealth of information will have you looking at birds in the sky differently for a long time. I can't get over vultures - they are probably my favorite bird now! Following the tour is the show - a time for a few of their trained birds to show off their amazing skills. You really leave with a sense of admiration and respect for birds of prey. As stated before, a worthwhile visit for the entire family!

My wife and I took our two grown boys (highschool and college) to the Center over Thanksgiving break. We got the normal pushback from them as it was a cold day and going with Mom and Dad on a learning visit isn't in their top ten list of things they like to do. If you go roaming on your own, you will need to bring your own reference material as the handouts that were given didn't give much detail. On the other hand, the staff leads tours of a number of the birds that are being cared for there. The staff was very knowledgeable (and enthuisiastic) and paused for as long as needed to answer questions. That is where the trip started to gain momentum. I could tell my son's were becoming interested because one of them actually asked a question. The highlight was the flight demonstrations. The only bad thing about the flight demonstration was that it cut off the tour of the birds in their large cages and I would have loved to spend more time touring wtih the staff and asking questions. That being said, the flight demonstration was a Wow! They had four birds of prey (if I remember correctly) that they released in front of the crowd with the trained staff and demonstrated how each of them hunted. The birds in demonstration were amazing and the staff paused to answer all questions. They had the first demonstration and I was hoping it wouldn't end at the first bird. When they brought out the second, third and fourth each with their own hunting techniques I forgot all about the cold and just sat there "enraptored" (I mean enraptured). It was a real learning experience and a great visit. Well worth the small donation that is made for the very worthwhile mission this center has. I will go back again the next time I visit family in the Charleston, S.C. area.My sons begrudgingly agreed it was a worhwhile visit. A great win for mom and dad!!

Let me start off by saying I am afraid of birds but family wanted to go while visiting us. That being said, the staff made me feel comfortable and were incredibly knowledgeable. I was so into their commitment, knowledge, and enthusiasm that I relaxed enough to enjoy the tour. I had a great time and learned so much! Was well worth the money! We will be going back the next time we have more family in town, Great work!

This is a fantastic way to spend 2-3 hours! The staff is super nice and knowledgable. The demonstration brings the birds right up close to you. We saw an owl, kite, falcon, and two hawks. They were all within a few feet of us! Don't miss all the other birds in their cages. A great place to visit for everyone. The demonstrations are twice a day. Make sure to go to one of those. Check out their website for times.

Well designed and managed conservation center for Birds of Prey. Large variety of birds of all sizes. Large cages and birds appear well cared for in the environment. The flight demonstration was very informative and I learned many new things about the different species.

These folks really want you to understand how wonderful these birds are and their importance to the environment. You will get a chance to get up close with several different raptors and see exactly how the fly and eat and survive.

An excellent way to spend half a day. Fascinating to see the variety of Raptors and to experience some of them in flight. Staff and volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable. This was our second visit in 2 years and we enjoyed them both equally. As a warning though, take plenty of water if it's hot and some good insect repellant.

The center is absolutely worth the drive from Charleston! The spot is beautiful, there are plenty of birds to see around the property, and if you time it right, you can witness the flight of some impressive birds of prey - check the schedule for 'shows'.

The only negative about Birds of Prey is that it does not get enough publicity and it is a bit out of the way. If traveling US 17 north from Charleston it's in Awendaw, SC and is absolutely a MUST visit. The opportunity to see these birds up close and doing what they do naturally is an experience I highly recommend
