We visited this museum to get a feel for a small town outside of SC's capital city. We were not disappointed. History goes a long way back in this town. 2 floors, with arrowhead collection upstairs. Low costs. There is a little bathroom. Not for weak knees or wheelchairs.
They have the largest arrowhead collection I have ever seen. All of the docents are caring professionals and spend time to help you get to know the history of Cayce and West Columbia. It is worth a trip for anyone!
There is quality and quantity here in equal measure...beautiful displays of thousands of points, arrowheads, axes and more from the Clovis period through modern times. Local Revolutionary and Civil war history is brought to life, along with the story of Cayce. Our visit was even more enjoyable, thanks to the knowledgeable and affable director. Even on a rainy winter day, this museum was a bright spot!
This place is a well kept secret and filled with some amazing historic items including General Cornwallis' table. I would suggest it to anyone interested in hearing of the local history of Saxe Gotha.
Who knew so much history was available within an hours drive of Camden? I found the grounds and exhibits quite inteersting. They added to my knowledge of our South Carolina midlands!
This little museum is truly a gem! The museum is housed in an exact replica of a Revolutionary war building called Fort Granby. There are only four rooms- a lot of relics of the revolutionary and Civil wars. There is also relics and displays telling the history of the now defunct town of Granby and the current city of Cayce. The best part of the museum is the room upstairs filled with Native American arrowheads and relics. I'm talking about a LARGE amount of relics. Some going back to Clovis period!! Anybody interested in American Indian relics needs to go to this place. Aldo on the grounds are some old colonial buildings and a train car. The price is like only $2 per adult. Free on Sundays. I've been to a lot of museums around the world-but always feel satisfied after visiting this museum. I recommend it!!
