Great place for kids to run around and learn a little history. My son loves history and begs to go here.

I love going to this park off of Dorchester Rd. It's full of history. I have never been ther when it was crowded. You can walk walk through the quiet paths and enjoy the past and present. They also have reenactments through out the year.

A nice little spot seemingly in the middle of the city! Turn down the entrance lane and you'll be transported to a lovely little historical spot. A nice place to wander about a bit and sit by the river to relax.

They periodically have Revolutionary War reenactments. I love to take photos here, too. They also host other family-friendly events. We sometimes come here for a picnic with the grands. Take a trip here and check it out!

Colonial Dorchester County State Park is the site where the first settlers of Summerville, South Carolina landed on the shores of the Ashley River. There is not a whole lot to see at the site, but there is a neat tower made from mortar and sea shells. (Don't see that every day)

Learn how settlers lived and how they laid out their town. We learned why the buildings were narrow in width but long in length

Just off Dorchester Road. Close to Summerville SC. Picnic table are shaded. Interesting history lesson. It is on the Ashley River. There is a walking trail. There are historical remains. Is used for photo shoots. Check dates for reenactments.

This is right off Dorchester road amidst the hub bub... and probably most of its inhabitants haven't been here. A great detour for a local fun history lesson. Dig going on know. Will need to check that out again!

This is a great place to relax, have a picnic, go fishing, or even learn parts of history. My kids love adventuring in the ruins and fishing here. This is just a fun relaxing place in such a busy part of town, but you would never know it. Must go and take a blanket...;-)

We went here because we were curious, but unfortunately it did not have much that sparked our interest. A few land markers, some old graves, and the partial ruins of what used to be a for and a church. The Ashley River is pretty to look at, but an hour is all you will need at most to wander around this place.

We are trying to visit all 47 of SC's state parks this year. So far we have been to 17. We very much enjoyed this site. It was a brief visit. We walked around the area, read the educational signages and looked out at the Ashley River and imagined how the defenses would have been. I always enjoy touring old fortifications and seeing and reading about how the oyster shell tabby walls were made was neat. So old. Well, old by American standards anyway.

There's not a ton to see, but it's scenic and peaceful (and cheap). They are working on some digs of the original settlement and the workers will talk to you about all the details.

The church ruins can be viewed without paying a fee. The fort is within the fee area. We took time to see both. It was interesting to see how well the property is now cared for versus when my grandparents visited in 1958 before it became an official historic site. Well worth a quick stop.
