This section of North Carolina is covered with falls, so I am going to be tough on any fall that does not deliver good viewing. Issaqueena Falls really falls short on this point. You can get to the top of the falls very easily, but you can only see the water going over the edge. When yo go down to the viewing platform, you see more trees than falls. This is a shame, because I have seen pictures that indicate that this si a nice waterfall. People have made some trails further down the hill, but they are treacherous and steep to say the least. The official trail is easy and well done, so you can get to the viewing areas easily.Wallhalla, the city that owns the park, needs to revamp the viewing experience, if they want to get good tourist traffic. There is a nearby picnic area that has a pavilion, pond with gazebo and a port-a-potty. I found the pond to be as good or better than the waterfall. It is why I gave this attraction three stars instead of two.

The hike down was a bit hard to find, off the beaten (paved) path. But once we got there the falls were beautiful!! One of my favorite waterfalls. We look forward to going back.

As the picture below shows, the waterfall is spectacular. To get to where I took this picture, you will need to climb a bit. There is an observation platform further up the hill that does offer a bit of a few, but you really can't see much of the falls from that vantage point. We took a six year old, two people 60+ (in fairly good shape), and a large backpack stuffed with food and cameras down the trail and it took us about 15 minutes. Mind you, a lot of that was using trees and rocks as hand-holds until we reached the bottom. Once there, the bottom of the falls are fairly calm and, on the day we went, devoid of the typical crowds of people who usually overrun this sort of attraction.

Been going here since I was a kid when climbing to the bottom and back to the top was fun. This is one of the rare waterfalls where the parking lot takes you to the top of the falls with no easy access to the bottom. There is a fairy easy place to look over part of the falls. It's still worth the trip. Great memories for me.

If you are unable or unwilling to climb the steep terrain to get to the bottom of the falls then you will not be able to see much. There is simply too much foliage blocking the view. Having said that, there are plenty of other views available for the nature lover and kids enjoy playing in the cool water just above the falls. I loved the trail ( not very steep ) and the covered bridge. There is a bench along the way for rest, relaxation and nature watching. I would love to come here again and make use of the picnic facilities. This is definitely a place to put on your list of day trips. This trip can be combined with Stumphouse Tunnel that is only a short walk/drive away. As a caveat, there is not a fee to enter but there is a small parking fee.

We spent over an hour here. We climbed down to the bottom of the falls and played in them. The one negative thing that makes me mad every beautiful place I go is the lack of consideration people have for nature and leave their trash laying around. Leave No Trace

The falls were beautiful. The kids enjoyed climbing up the side. I would not recommend climbing to the bottom with little ones. Semi-difficult.

My girlfriend enjoy visiting waterfalls. I thought this waterfall was pretty nice. Not the best in terms of accessibility, but a nice view nonetheless.

At the same park at Stumphouse Tunnel. Worth the difficult walk down the side of the fall to get a lower view.

The falls were pretty crowded when we went but nice nonetheless. There was a line of people fron the overlook all the way down the walkway. There is a way to get closer to the falls but it might not be "authorized" in the strictest sense. The walkway is on the right as you look from the top but there is a small trail to the left that allows you to see the falls from the other side. I would not recommend going any further or climbing under the falls because there is a pretty serious drop and I imagine the rocks get pretty slippery.

Well maintained trail and overlook. Short easy walk with children. View of the falls was great. It was beautiful.

you need to climb down a very steep, but short trail to get a good view. Issaqueena Falls is an easy to visit waterfall near Walhalla, SC. It's only a very short hike to the overlook (less than a quarter mile), but the views from the overlook are not very good at all. The picture I included from the overlook was taken during the summer, so it might be a little better in the winter when the foliage is down. But if you want a really good view, you have to continue down the very steep, but short trail to the base of the falls. If you don't intend to make this climb down, it's probably not worth visiting. From the base, however, the waterfall is truly beautiful. The area around the falls was recently under threat from development, but local citizens, conservancy groups, and local governments rallied together and raised money to protect the falls and the surrounding area, which is now a park managed by Walhalla and a Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area managed by the state. Stumphouse Tunnel is also in this area, so if you have time, pay a visit to that too.The falls are named for a river maiden, Issaqueena. According to legend, she fell in love with and married a white settler named Allan Francis. Upon learning of an impending attack by the Cherokee, she rode 96 miles to warn the settlers. Later, the Cherokee Chief sent warriors to capture Issaqueena. She ran from the attackers and faked her own death by pretending to jump off the waterfall, but merely jumped down to a ledge below and hid from her pursuers.

This fall is very close to the Stumphouse tunnel and we did them together. My group didn't want to hike down (had some elderly with us) so we walked over and looked at the falls from the top viewing area. You can't really see much from the top. We did walk around to the left and down an unofficial path that takes you behind one section of the falls. We were not brave enough to go behind them due to slippery rocks and little kids, but the family in front of us did and took some pictures. I plan to go back here and spend more time.

We visited the falls after seeing Stumphouse Tunnel, which is very close. It is a nice easy walk to the viewing platform, but after that, it is a tough hike to the bottom of the falls. (I did see pictures someone posted on TripAdvisor of a trail through the woods, but we didn't see that trail when we were there). You can get a nice picture from the viewing platform, but we were there in August and the view was somewhat obstructed by all of the foliage. We saw a large snail on a tree while walking to the falls as well as some very unique mushrooms growing on the side of the tree, so that kept the kids interested. This stop won't take a lot of time, but it is worth viewing.
