This is a sad case of neglect by woeful city leadership and poor treatment of a neighborhood treasure. They even transferred the venerable Joy, the elephant, who tragically died on her way to a new home. She had brought her own brand of joy to several generations of children. Poor Joy who tried so hard. The zoo was once well run, professional and a model of delight, now barely thriving it appears. Greenville's elected "leaders" seem to care more about their revenue and more bars downtown than family-friendly venues of long standing tradition. No doggie parks can ever replace a well-run zoo. Miss the traditional Greenville.
for the little ones to enjoy. Nice exhibits and the kids can feed some farm animals at the end. My grandson LOVES this place!
We have lived in Chicago with larger zoos available. The Greenville zoo offers just enough to keep going back, without feeling overwhelmed. A beautiful day, seeing animals, a walk along the river, picnic in the park, stroll downtown or take the trolly...you can do it all in Greenville! A season pass is a wonderful investment for the family-see what you want and move on to another activity.
Had to waste some time waiting for husband so I went to the zoo very small and not a lot of animals but very pretty
I have been taking my kids to the Greenville Zoo for years. Just not the same since Joy the elephant died. Small hometown zoo. Clean and we'll maintained. Very small. The giraffes are cool.
Greenville Zoo offers the right dose of entertainment for kids up to maybe 12. No big entertainment shows, but a nice and educational reptile department. It's small-town entertainment as you would expect it and offers a variety of kids' educational camps.
Greenville zoo is a smaller, but not disappointing zoo to spend an afternoon in. Great for smaller children who have shorter attention spans or tire quickly. Easy walking areas with plenty of benches to sit and watch some of the animals from while you enjoy the landscaping around the zoo. Well planned and cared for!
Greenville has been/is making changes to vamp up downtown, making it more inviting to the community and tourist friendly. But over the years no changes have been made towards one of the important places for the children. Its too small, needs better viewing, and more options. This zoo is very small, can be a let down if you have been to other zoos. Locals here I don't think know any different. However, there is a park right next to it that children can play. Snow cone stand set up to purchase from. But parking is shared between the park and zoo, which isn't alot of space, leaving vehicles circling the lot till one comes available. Other thing that was a let down, waiting inline to pay entry fee. Only one cashier, which seems to be in no hurry. Overall, quaint little zoo, but in desperate need of changes and growth.
I liked the price, the size, the variety of animals, and the beautiful location! This is a great place to take your family. Many locals buy inexpensive season passes. There's a great playground right next to the entrance too!
There's places for young and older children to play. The animals are in a nice airy section,The giraffes are great. It's always relaxing to spend time there and than cross the road to thewonderful playground.
Zoo is very nice but small. We buy season passes every yea and for the money it is fun for the kids. The pass also gets discounts to other local zoos like Zoo Atlanta or Riverbanks in Columbia so it's worth it if you do some travelling. It takes maybe an hour to see things and a bit longer if you actually read every placard. The elephants are gone and not coming back which is a downside as that is my youngest child's favorite. Bob the Orangutan has moved on to his new home in CA as well. He was a character and my kids loved him. The zoo does some nice special events like Boo at the Zoo which are fun and well run. Playground is nice but small. Even though we go several times a year the kids still love it each time so it's worth the trip.
We live in Greenville and absolutely love going to the zoo for the day. Plan on taking a lunch so you can make a picnic out of the outing as well. The kids can play on the swings outside the zoo. The zoo takes about 1.5 hours to go through, which is perfect. I highly recommend for people looking for something fun to do.
This is probably a great place for locals with kids. We live about an hour away, but we thought we'd check it out this weekend since my husband and I both enjoy zoos. It was a pleasant zoo, but very small. It took us about an hour to see everything. It's clearly an older facility that could use some updates, but the animal enclosures aren't archaic and the animals all seem healthy. It's a nice way to spend a little time if you happen to be in the area, but it's not large enough to warrant a trip for just the zoo.
This is a great small attraction for younger kids. Only takes about one hour to see the whole thing but most of it is shaded which is great in the summer. Also a playground in the zoo that younger kids love and not as crowded as those outside in Cleveland Park.
It may be small, but it is terrific. Clean, reasonable price and the animals are well cared for and beautiful. I try to go at least 3 times a summer just to walk around and say hello to all the animals.
