nantahala raft & rail

The train ride was scenic and relaxing. We chose the open car for the view. The guide for the rafting trip was skilled so this was very reassuring; the river was beautiful and just exciting enough.

Everything as advertised. Perfect! Eli, the guide in our raft, was the best!

Reservations and sign-in were all easy and no hassles. Took off from Bryson City, NC (delightful little downtown shopping/dining opportunities!) on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. Wonderful train ride through picturesque Lake Fontana area to the Nantahala Gorge area. All depot staff comes out to wave us on our way! Special disembark off train to pick up by WildWater Ltd. Rafting Company staff. Short bus ride to put in spot on the Nantahala river. Rafts, guides (friendly/knowledgable), safety vests & paddles all waiting for us. Exciting yet family-friendly level river run about 8 miles through up to Class II waters and perhaps one Class III (Nantahala Falls) run. Put out at the Nantahala Outdoor Center complex. Bus ride to WildWater headquarters for showers & lunch, then bus ride back to Bryson City train depot.
