Was here in August 2012 with my family on a down up to NC - fantastic place, good shops cafés and restaurants. Bought a book from a book store (can't remember the name now) which was a guide to NC. Worth a trip if you are in the area definitely.
I've visited Birkdale village many times in the past, and I'm never let down. A very busy, energetic atmosphere. There's something for everyone there. Great restaurants, great shopping, and a theatre to end the evening. If you haven't checked it out, mark it on your to do list.
Shops, Restaurants, Movie Theatre are just a few of the things at Birkdale Village. Many times there will be live music and other entertainment outside. There is plenty to do do and a great place to spend an afternoon or evening.
I frequent Birkdale regularly because of the Chipotle. However there are many other reasons to go. There's a movie theater ($6 movies on Tuesday), restaurants (including Bonefish Grill), and shopping (Charming Charlie, The Gap, White House Black Market, Victoria's Secret, Bath & Body Works, Etc). It's an ok alternative for those who prefer outdoor shopping over malls. During Christmas, there's a huge tree at the village center and during the warmer months it is a splash-pad for kids. Pretty cool place.
Birkdale village has everything. Shops for everyone, Great Restaurants, Movie Theaters, Atmosphere is great,
Average "village." Filled with shops. Only a few major players such as Banana Republic and Victoria Secret, etc. More or less filled with no-name overpriced boutiques and chain restaurants such as Brixx Pizza etc. There is a movie theater and plenty of parking. Nice area to walk around and get some air while browsing through the stores. Have been here a couple times, and will come back. Best thing in this area of town, as there is not much else to do besides Lake Norman.
My wife and I were stranded in Charlotte last weekend due to a tunnel fire on I-77 in WV. We were headed to Beckley, WV but could not make it. We stayed in a hotel we have used several times, the Hampton Inn in Huntersville. The desk clerk suggested we visit Birkdale Village while we were in town.We LOVE IT. Very quaint area. Lots of great shopping and restaurants. Live entertainment in a park like setting. Movie theatre if you like. Great place to walk around, have dinner, listen to good music, and people watch.Very upscale. Check restaurant prices if cost is a consideration. Don't miss the Kerwin Ice Cream store after dinner.Just minutes from our hotel by the way.
We wandered around the shopping area when we had some down time waiting for a wedding. The shops are cute and one has the feeling of being in a small town. We had also been there the previous evening to go to the Fox and Hound for a party and the area on a Saturday night was buzzing with activity. People shopping, dining in outside areas and enjoying the nice weather. This place has it all from shops and restaurants to a movie theater. It would be a great place to live in the adjacent housing.
I love Birkdale Village. Plenty of great shops, and restaurants in there. My favorites being Red Rocks Café, and Brixx Pizza. Be perfect for a first date, grab a great meal, followed by a movie.
The weather was very nice the day we went so it made for a very pleasant day to walk through this outdoor pedestrian mall. Lots of shops, both chain and ones I had never heard of. Also plenty of restaurant choices and a movie theatre. Parking was easy. Ambience very nice.
All the food options in Birkdale Village are reasonable and worth a visit. The movie theater has good seating and wine!Shops offer spices to shoes and sporting goods.Only problem is parking, not enough. And parking police ready to write petty violations patrolling constantly.
The Village has an old-fashioned cozy look to it. Every store or restaurant has a charming storefront feel while still showing off a clean and modern look. There is a movie theatre and even specialty shoppes. There's even a CVS for all your last minute necessities. It is a pleasant place to walk and on a sunny day, it's nice to look out over the gardens. That is if there are too many cars parked to obscure the view. So, the only negative I will add is that unfortunately they made parking spots along every street. The architects could have accommodated for parking along the outer perimeter of the Village (behind the shoppes), but decided to place the parking areas in front of every shop, and on very narrow streets. It would have been very beautiful as a pedestrian walkway. Instead, this typical, big city, parking meter eye-sore inevitably draws away from the beauty and charm of this shopping village.
Wow, what a find? We visit Charlotte to see our Son four times a year from the UK, and every visit we search for somewhere/thing new to explore. Heading for Lake Norman we came across Birkdale Village and what a surprise and enjoyable couple of hours it passed away for us.The shops are mixture of chain stores and local boutiques, but if they were selling nuts and bolts the area would be equally pleasing to walk around, for those who live there please think about how lucky you are as we felt lucky just finding this Gem, which now sits on our NC to do list for future visits.
The 'outdoor mall' looks nice. Mostly national chains, a few smaller regional stores sprinkled in. The buildings and the layout itself is really nice, would be a relaxing place to spend a couple of hours if it wasn't for too many cars/traffic.The buildings look nice. The storefronts face the street. The sidewalks are wide and lined with trees, there is a center median running down the main street with trees and lined with old-fashioned looking lighting. There is even parking BEHIND most of the stores, but then the experience (for some like us) is ruined by allowing cars to park right in front of the stores and having traffic routed through the area.It might be nice for some (and it was kinda nice for us), but this place would be a LOT more better if they allowed limited traffic and no parking in front of the stores and kept the cars to the rear.
Birkdale Village has many things going for it, great shopping, great restaurants, a nice movie theater that was recently renovated, and good kid areas. I highly recommend taking your young kids there in the summer heat for a little fun in the water fountain. The water is treated so it is safer then a regular fountain. It is located in the center of the village right next to where they have bands play outside during the summer.
