Our trip on the river was well taken care of, with first hand experience from the owners... Megan and Ilya saw to it that we had the time and equipment to enjoy canoeing up and down the river. Information regarding wildlife was a fun addition... I am an avid birder and lover of wildlife, and what a pleasure it was to see turtles, jumping fish and osprey in their natural habitat. Hope to see an otter next time!Perfect for newbie river trotters and seasoned adventurers alike!
We came in for tubing, but after checking the weather forecast and discussing it with the staff, we chose to kayak instead. It was perfect - the river there is beautiful and easy to navigate - pretty shallow (so no motor boats), with slow current. The staff member that helped us pointed out a few interesting things to see and do (like where to stop for some splashing in the river, where Class I rapids were, etc). The leisure paddle we did takes about 2 hrs if you make a stop at the sand bar for some wading in the river or to have a snack. It is great for someone with young kids or for inexperienced paddlers such as ourselves. If you need a double kayak, you better call ahead 'cause they only have a few. Otherwise, it's a terrific place.
I took 13 students down the river on tubes over labor day weekend. It was a great time, the students all enjoyed themselves thoroughly! I also found that the staff at CFA were very polite and helpful. We look forward to returning in the future.
Awesome outing! Our group absolutely enjoyed our tubing adventure down the Cape Fear River. The staff was a completely professional and told us what to expect, We are planning a kayak adventure soon we enjoyed tubing so much.
This place is a hidden gem. This part of the cape fear river is beautiful. The People at Cape Fear River Adventures couldn't be any nicer. We took the white water adventure. Most of the trip is calm water. There are many places to stop and enjoy the peace and quite. The rapids are exciting and not too challenging. Its perfect for the novice.
Hi Pedro! Wow, thanks for writing that great testimonial! You know, helping you guys that day may have been just as much a morale booster for ME as it was for your Scouts :-) Y'all are welcome back at CFRA anytime! - Cheers! Megan
My wife and I did the ‘Whitewater’ trip using their kayaks. The equipment was in great shape. The only thing we had to provide was ourselves. You have to fill out some paperwork and leave a driver’s license. They had several options from tubing, kayaking or canoeing. From those options you can pick your choice of adventure. The two hour trip consists of paddling up stream (very easy) to some rapids and back to the shop. The ‘Whitewater’ trip (4 hours) consists of paddling down river where you are faced with class I and II rapids. (We did hit a rock and got flipped. The only thing hurt was our ego.) The directions along the river are very easy. There are no forks in the river to get lost. At the end of the trip 'Cape Fear River Adventures' brings you back to your vehicle. The staff was amazing! They provided very useful guidance for the trip. Most importantly they tell you what to look out for at the end of the trip.I would highly recommend this to anyone in the Raleigh / Fayetteville area.
We had an amazing day. Although the river was a bit high (= faster current) the guide suggested we anchor down at a few places along the journey to extend our trip. We ended up spending close to 6 hours on the river and had a BLAST. We brought 2 coolers but since they fit on a single cooler float we thought that would be enough - learn from our mistake! Make sure there is empty space on the cooler float to keep your clothes, a towel, any trash you create, etc. out of the water. Also plan to get there before noon and spend the better part of the day floating along, the river has some great wildlife and lovely (and quite) vistas so take advantage of it. Everyone in the office was extremely helpful both at the start of our trip and at the end; when we were done with our trip our pickup was almost immediate! They even suggested some overnight canoeing / kayaking trips for us to try next. I can't wait to do this again as the price was very reasonable for the amount of time we were able to spend (our group said we would be happy to spend every summer Saturday with Cape Fear River Adventures).
weather was great and so was the staff at Cape Fear River Adventures! Nice, friendly, and ready to answer all your questions. This place has come a long way. We will be back. Already done the overnight at Raven Rock State park and the two mile tube trip. Up next ....kayaking!
Thank you so much for your feedback, Alyssa. We're so glad we were able to set you up with a trip you enjoyed! And thanks for your patience! Blown tire was a test of everyone's limits... I'm extremely glad everyone was ok. The remainder of the day was complete chaos with a van down, BUT it all ended successfully! Next time you're ready for a river trip, we'd love to set you up with a Buckhorn Dam run. Cheers! -CFRA Staff
Well hello, and thank you so much for the review, sir! We certainly enjoyed helping you and your group of very courageous Boy Scouts get out on the river this past weekend. I say courageous because of the weather we had - RAIN, RAIN, and MORE RAIN! We look forward to seeing you all again soon :-)Cheers!! -Megan & Ilia
Thank you so much for taking the time to review us! We sure enjoyed helping you out on the river and take great pride in what we do. Again, thank you so much for the review. We do hope to see you again soon! - Cheers! Megan
I stopped by Cape Fear River Adventures on 7/20/14. I didn't rent a kayak or canoe as I had my own but I needed some advice on river info, launching my kayak, where to go, etc. They were very helpful and offered great advice even though they were not making a sale. To me, this is the sign of a quality business that is interested in furthering the sport and not just making money. I did look at their rental boats and they rent good quality gear that is well maintained. I spoke with several patrons at the launching ramp and on the river and all seemed happy with their rental experience. We had a great time on the river!
On the day my family tried this - 23 JUL 2014 -First things first - the title suggests you will be treated professionally, your family taken under wing, introduced to what they are getting in to, placed/sized into any needed equipment, given some safety tips unique to what you are doing, and perhaps even a guide to lead the "group" at specified group times. If you are looking for any of the above, my recommendation is to find another family adventure. This is a small mom and pop, which if the business model is customer friendly is fine, but on this day it meant there is one person at the desk, running to and from the edge of the river a 100meters away handling all equipment rental, pulling boats to/from the water, whatever, taking "group photos" for customers, etc. On the phone, It seemed I had to pull information from the young lady who answered. She offered no real information from which I could plan. Having looked at the website the day before, I still had some questions. When I asked, "May I please speak to someone else a little more knowledgeable," I was met with the clearly shocked, "Excuse me?". Clarity then came in the form of, "Groups" are not with guides, you can rent equipment here, but you have to have it back by 3pm, you have to be here when the place opens if you want to go as a group", etc. Answers are legitimate, just wish I didn't have to pull them out of her.We live close, and even though I thought better of it, we went ahead and drove to the site to see for ourselves, and rent a couple boats, etc. We pull in, knowing we have to be back at three with any equipment, and we wait. Store is open, no one in the counter. A couple of walkie-talkies on behind the counter, but silences...crickets. Its now 1pm. Me, my wife, two teenage boys, waiting... I send one of the boys to go find someone who works here. Notta. Regardless, given our time crunch we were under, and my impression that I was about to be charged for two days of rental since I'd now be 3:01pm or later getting back, we decide to leave. Actually, just go buy the remaining kayak sets I need for the summer. As we are leaving, the lone female "holding it down" comes up dollying a canoe, with a group, and didn't even know customers where waiting on here to get into the river. So its whatever, I spent my money at Dick's sporting goods that day, when I was more than happy to be a customer, and repeat customer, here.Nice people, just a horrible way to run a business that is customer service oriented.
Our family has a major reunion every second year - at a family home near Lillington. For the third time we included Cape Fear Adventures in our planning. This year, we had 27 people - from seven year olds to people in their seventies - join us for a two-hour, morning run down the Cape Fear River. The run, from the launch pad by the US Highway 421 bridge to the Wildlife Recreational ramp includes two Class I rapids - easily handled by novice kayakers and canoeists, a small island perfect for coming ashore and taking a swim, and occasional sightings of blue heron, maybe even a hawk. The day was spectacular, gentle breeze, cool air, Carolina blue sky. The Cape Fear staff organized the event to perfection. We had a few changes at the last minutes, all of which the staff handled with efficiency and smiles. Shuttle vans pulled up on schedule as we came to the end of our run and transported us back to our vehicles. The price was fair - with a discount for the large size of our group.I can say with confidence that this feature is now a permanent addition to our reunion festivities.Art RossGroup Leader
