many species of pine trees and hollies to see and enjoy at any season of the year there is something to see. Docents are available if you call first...the receptionist is wonderful.
Great place to spend time. Always changing. The "greenway" runs through and is a great way to see the natural beauty
Sandhills Horticultural Gardens is a wonderful spot to walk on a nice day. I visited in October and December which is not the height of the flowering season, yet they were still beautiful. The gardens are varied. There are native North Carolina plants and flowers, desert garden with cactus, a formal English garden, children's garden, edible garden and a hummingbird garden to name just a few. The trails wander up and down and through these gardens which are maintained by the horticulture students from Sandhills Community College next door. It's well with a visit.
Very pleasant trails and scenery to walk through and experience. A boardwalk or sidewalk leads the way and will eventually exit into the various well established dirt trails behind the buildings. Many small ponds and wildlife to observe.
The gardens are beautifully laid out and the variety of plants was very nice. It was very nice and peaceful to stroll through with my fiancé but I was a bit disappointed at the lack of upkeep in some of the gardens. The gardens that are at the very entranceway were very well manicured but as we went further in they started to seem very unkempt and much of the water features did not have water in them at the time or were stagnant. We did enjoy the pond and all of the small wildlife that was around to be seen though! I definitely want to visit again in the spring and hopefully it will have had more of a chance to be worked on by the students. Still, it was worth the time to stroll through for an hour or so.
This is an unexpected and delightful spot near Pinehurst. A great spot for a quiet, shady stroll among azaleas, hollys and rhododendron.
This is a nice place to visit & take out of town friends for a peaceful walk among pretty landscaping. It's not very well advertised, but makes for a nice outing.
Sandhills Community College has one of the best Horticulture programs in No Carolina. These gardens are as good as the University of North Carolina.
Designed and maintained by students. One of the best horticulture programs in the country. Graduates employed at White House grounds. Graduates of golf management program are very successful in their careers. Beautiful, and imaginative gardens. Easy parking, great docents, and amazing variety of plant material. Beautiful year-round.
The Layout was wonderful. Very nice designs of the gardens. It is very well maintained. The best time to go would be spring but still things to see in May. They have some nice sculptures as well. There are 14 sections to view. I especially loved the Sir Walter Raleigh Garden and the Japanese Garden. The entrance building has restrooms.
Established in 1978 with an original donation of the Ebersole Hollys, today this is the field experience for the landscape/gardening students at the Sandhills Community College. There is a large variety of gardens on display from formal English to Japanese. The native wetland trail and the hillside garden feature native or now native flowers and shrubs. We were there in May and the rhododendrons and magnolias were splendid. An hour strolling through the winding paths is a real treat. It is possible to picnic at the WWII Memorial near the entrance. There is a trail from here to the Resevoir Park at Southern Pines but inquire as to the distance and time. The walk around the reservoir is really lovely.
A teriffic place for a relaxing afternoon. Acres and acres, of a wide variety of theme gardens. Much of the paths are handicap accesable, there are benches, creeks, waterfalls, statuary, and fountains.
If you want to go somewhere to enjoy blossoms & nature that is a touch wild yet handicapped accessible go here. Good for a picnic or a place to take your wedding pictures. Miles of trails. It is free- how can it miss?
Great place to spend a quiet hour enjoying nature. Best time is spring/summer to see all the flowers in bloom, but there's something nice to see no matter what time of year. Note: no food or pets allowed so don't try taking a picnic lunch like we did!
There is precious little color out in November but there is solitude a midst the abundant flora. The pathways are clearly marked, with gentle slopes and well packed gravel for stumble proof seniors to manage. Most foliage is tagged so you are never at a loss of what you are seeing. The winter vegetables in the well manicured raised beds was a highlight. Lower your expectations for this time of year and enjoy being outside in nature
