The Foscue Plantation is only open one day a week - Thursday. What makes this tour so different is that you tour the whole house and go in every room. There are no ropes or glass barriers. The guides (Carol and Betty) encourage you to touch the furniture and walk on the 200 year old carpets. The house is not a reproduction but the original house that nine generations of the Foscue family lived in. Union troops occupied the house during the civil war and one of the Foscue men served with the Confederate army. There are pictures of him before and during his enlistment.Much of the furniture is original to the Foscue family or they have purchased pieces from the same period that are mentioned in letters and inventories. If you enjoy touring 200 year old houses and examining the furniture and feeling the beauty of the wood, this would be an excellent tour for you. Much of the plantation has been sold off during the last 100 years, and none of the out buildings survived but the family cemetery is on the grounds. The price of the ticket was $10 and we had a 2 hour tour. This plantation is only 9 miles from New Bern and is well worth the trip
