Being from Florida we had a level of pier expectation and this place exceeded our expectations. It is wide and has wonderful benches and fish cleaning tables- complete with diagrams showing you how to clean fish. The price for a walk was $2 per person and worth it for views of the beach. There are windmills on the pier that hum in the strong blowing winds! There are also several buildings on the pier that are a nice break from the cold wind and there are educational write ups to include fishing limits, fish identification, hurricane stories and information about the windmills. Inside there is a large aquarium showing the types of fish that lurk under the pier and a well appointed gift shop complete with snacks and souvenirs. Great visit!
this was a fantastic spot to check out the surf, the sun, and the sand all in one location. parking was a breeze and the pier is wonderful
We recently toured Jennette's Pier during a weekday, when it was 34 degrees, and the wind was howling. Yes, it was quite cold, and we had the pier to ourselves, except for a couple of bird watchers that were dressed like eskimos. I'll have to say, they were DEDICATED to their hobby. The employees were very friendly, and the gift shop was nice. The entire complex was clean. We will go back when it gets a little warmer..........
I normally hang out on the beach at a different location in the summer since it's close to home. But every now and then we load the truck up and hang out at Jennette's Pier. It feels like we are on a baby vacation. The pier is wonderful. It's only two dollars to enter the pier. Walk to the end of the pier and turn around to look back a the beach. The view is outstanding! There is not another pier on the Outer Banks that compares with this one. Do yourself a favor and go enjoy this place!
The appeal of getting offshore if only even a few hundred feet is paramount and numerous piers on the Outer Banks are evidence of our desire to keep our feet dry yet be out there on the end of a pier fishing or just breathing the sea air. A friendly bunch of folks on these piers who will be happy to have a conversation with strangers just because we are out there over the water! Most enjoyable afternoon watching all the fishermen as many women as men!
Great views albeit windy. Go ahead and joing the aquarium to see this and the one in Roanoke Island.
We traveled during off season and decided to stop to check out the rebuild pier. $2 per adult for an all day accessible pass to the pier. Which in good weather is awesome as you have a great vantage point of beach activities, pier fishing, and watching marine life. When we went it was unseasonably colder, but still went out and read about the history of the pier and also got to be out on the ocean. Next time we visit..weather permitting the hubby is going to try the pier fishing.
Took a walk on the pier in 25 degree weather, and it was still enjoyable! Well maintained, has a small gift shop to buy souvenirs.
The 2011 rebuilt concrete pier is supposedly the only pier open in the winter. Nice gift shop! Crazy people fishing in February with 14 degree weather.
We always do a family day at the pier. We always secure a guide who helps us bait as well as catch fish. A must do for families. Call ahead to make a reservation.
This is a great place, and the pier extends way out into the sea! It is definitely worth a visit. You can walk it all day for $2.00!
I fish off the pier 10 - 12 times a year. Good solid pier with plenty of spots to fish and sit. Pier is clean and the people are very friendly.
This is one of our favorite "must see" spots when we're down at the Outer Banks! (OBX)There's NO CHARGE for either parking or entry ... 'tho there is a voluntary donation box if you choose to go out on the pier to sight-see. When you get out to the end, you'll be over 300 feet from shore! Along the pier, there are a few telescope stations, but it's even better if you bring your own binoculars and cameras. If you check out the website, you'll also find webcam links to both a Pier Cam as well as a Surf Cam -- a great way to check out the local weather conditions. As the previous pier was completely destroyed in a 2003 storm, the NC Aquarium Society, having just taken over ownership of the site prior to the storm, constructed a super-green/ecologically friendly facility including 3 wind turbines, solar panels and water saving projects throughout. There are 2 fish tanks where you can see fish swimming as if you were underwater + a gift shop that has lots of fun things for 'kids of all ages'. A much larger aquarium site is nearby on Roanoke Island in Manteo, NC, just a short 15 min drive to the east.If you DO want to actually fish from the pier, you WILL need to buy a NC fishing license, but rates are reasonable.Lots of available parking, friendly staff and rest room facilities are immaculate.
Very nicely done Pier. The views are awesome. There are educational displays that are interesting. The folks who work the Pier are very nice and helpful.
We go to OBX a lot as we have a second home. We usually visit Jeannette's pear while there and before going out to dinner. Its a great place to take family and walk down the pier and watch others fish.
