We had some time to kill before our dinner reservations, so we drove a mile off the highway and found this beautiful, quaint, historic district. The was the first state capital of Indiana, with the original capital building now serving as a museum. Well worth the trip!

Original capitol and courthouse with quite the history. Inside you'll fine the desk the state constituion was signed on as well as part of the Constituion Elm, under who's watchful eye the document was signed. Something to that effect, the stump of the elm can be seen a few blocks away. The tour guides for this site and others as part of the admission (The Gov. Hendricks home) are knowledgable about what happened here as well as about the town itself.

What a great experience. The visitor's center lady that helped me and my wife locate places and recommended great places to eat was so personable.Plenty of great information there, Also the gift shop in the old church was awesome. We spoke with the man there for 45 minutes learning alot about the surrounding area and the great books they had for sale. I can hardly wait to bring my kids by for a visit with all these great people.

Corydon is a quaint historic town. The people who work at and give the tours at the historic site are knowledgeable and friendly. They share their knowledge with interesting stories. Once here you will want to visit the many other attractions offered in Harrison County.

A friend showed my partner and I around Indiana's first capital. The building is in excellent condition with the original colored walls. There are bookshelves on the top floor that are original. If you are in the area it's a small place that doesn't take long to visit. The guide knew a lot about the building and was very friendly.

Even if you aren't a history buff, you will enjoy walking around this Indiana Historic area. There is signage everywhere explaining the buildings and events that took place. The woman at the Visitor's Center was extremely friendly and helpful.

The history is there, but the displays are not as interesting as we have seen other places. The tours are disorganized and sort of "random". The only saving grace was an interesting, knowledgeable tour guide at the Hendricks Home. It feels like a elementary field trip sort of destination.

If history is your thing, visiting this small city will be an enjoyment. The downtown square is quaint in the best possible meaning of the word. The downtown area is clean and well kept, all the historical sites are within walking distance of each other, and the Civil War Museum is on the other side of the street from the Old Capitol Building. You have to have a guide in order to get into the Capitol, Gov. Hendricks headquarters and Porters Law Office. The cost is $4 per person. The visitors center is easy to find and the lady there was extremely helpful and friendly. Due to the heat of an Aug. day we elected to drive the short distance, while our guide walked to meet us. But there is a walking map you can use. Just a few blocks away from the downtown square is Constitutional Elm where the first Constitution of Indiana was written. The only downtown café was Fergusons' but it closes at 2pm, and the tea shoppe was closed for renovations on the day we were there. The Civil War Museum is small but the owner is extremely knowledgeable about the only battle fought in Indiana. The exhibits are interesting and it's free to see, however donations are accepted. You can eat outside the downtown area where chain restaurants are located. About an hours drive from Evansville In it a nice way to spend an afternoon. we went on to eat at Joe Huber's Farm & Restaurant.

Step off the beaten path and see the first capital of Indiana. The history is rich with intrigue and mystery. The square in historic Corydon is always busy with something going on. Restaurants, shops, library, salons and even a Bed and Breakfast all within walking distance. Even in fall and winter the square is bustling with activities. What a great place to stay and have an adventure.

If you do like and appreciate Indiana history , then you will enjoy the area. Certainly not exciting now , but obviously important to the establishment of the state.

Corydon is just a shadow of its former self, but it's interesting. We were there during one of the first warm evenings in 2014 and it was fun to walk around and read the historic markers. There were no tours or guides around, but still a good (short) visit. If you want to know more about the early history of Indiana and the US, stop and walk a bit around the town.

If you are interested in the history of Indiana, then you should stop at this place. The visit doesn't take much time, but you learn quite a bit, especially if your guide is Alex, who seems to be well versed in history. In particular I loved the map of old Indiana territories, with lots of French names, and the barrister bookshelves on the second floor.

There is not alot to the site but the buildings are cool. It would be better to stop and see when its not cold and raining. Corydon was Indiana's first capital before being moved to Indianapolis.

If you're passing through, doing some caving, exploring the forest for the elusive Hoosier beast (a cross between Sasquatch and Cupacobra I'm told), then Corydon is a good place to relax for a bit, grab a bite to eat, and learn some history. While we were there, we visited the charming town park, read up on the history, went shopping at the thrift store, and ate some good Italian food.
