well let me tell you about this place this place is awesome I have come here a couple times specially for Shipshewana on the road the only inconvenient so I could see about it as that they really need another elevator for handicap other than that a great place to visit
I've been to the convention center a number of times. The place is massive, well constructed, simple no nonsense decor, and the best feature by far is the huge window overlooking the river. Numerous rooms are available for whatever you might need, from receptions to work parties to whatever. We went because DD had ISTEP testing for her online school. Lots of steps, lots of interesting hallways. It's connected to the South Bend Museum of Art which is another review in itself. Friendly staff, very clean facility. Thumbs up.
Discovery Ballroom at the Century Center featured an outstanding facility for a 200+ guest event. Gorgeous appointments (lighting, standing bars, etc), excellent dance floor, and state-of-the-art sound and video systems helped make the event picture and sound perfect. Century Center support staff, and cooking star Chef Rory Bancroft made planning and executing the event a delight.
The building is deteriorating. The food served doesn't quite come up to average. I wouldn't waste my time as a tourist.
The only convention center in the area that is not a hotel. You can rent a room for a special occasion. The downstairs has a great view of the river. In the summer, the outside area and the amphitheater are open for the visitors to stroll around and enjoy the "fresh"air and the mist from the river
It seems like there are more events at Century Center than there had been in the past. You can tell an attempt has been made to make the building welcoming despite the architecture and scale being of a more grand and slightly cold nature. Some of the details of the building are pretty amazing though, such as the view through the large windows in the grand hall, the bathrooms, the museum, etc.
It a lovely view whether you have an event there or just want to walk out on the island and be surrounded by the river and the dam.
I've been to numerous events here. The place could use some renovations but it's the best convention center in the area without a doubt.
I just returned from South Bend, working at the Century Center as photographer for a wedding reception. If you have a creative mind, you can easily transform this space into a gorgeous place. The two story high glass wall is just beautiful in daylight or at night. There are a ton of white lights that dangle from the ceiling, casting a glow on everyone below. The staff that I interacted with were all helpful and pleasant, and the food was great. The restrooms were very modern and clean. As it connects to the Double Tree, the entire wedding party and guests alike were happy to have the sky bridge to keep them out of the cold. The whole place is very spacious; this is so nice to have as a photographer! Hire a band and rock out!
Ok, so South Bend isn't Chicago. I've been to a bunch of events at the Century Center. The river view is pretty nice, but the place could use a bit of an overhaul.
Over price place to rent and slummy feeling. YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PARK, IF YOU HAVE A WEDDING THEIR!! There is a lot of nickel and dimming that happens.
