The Snite is a fabulous museum for a small town like South Bend. It has extensive collections and wonderful traveling exhibitions. Free, but donations requested.

Not big, but packed with really interesting items. All are beautifully displayed, and lots of helpful folks to answer questions. Highly recommended.

The University of Notre Dame's Snite Museum of Art is a wonderful way to spend a few hours while you're visiting campus. They have some wonderful permanent (but usually rotating) collections and work hard at presenting exceptional temporary exhibits. Admission is free with a donation box near the front. The layout makes it easy to get to every area and is conducive to spending more time contemplating a favorite piece.

We enjoyed the sacred art on the ground floor. A really impressive collection. Also the 18th century painting of Our Lady of Guadalupe is not to be missed.

This museum was nice and had a variety of art to be seen. We were able to see everything in about an hour but you could spend longer if needed. The admission is free (they suggest a $3 donation). The only problem is that it is very difficult to find. Don't use Google Maps because it doesn't take you to the actual building; instead use the campus map, that is how we ended up finding it.

This art museum is a hidden gem, offering a rich collection of art from many different cultures and points in time. The museum is free to visit, and can easily take up a few hours of time. The only complaint I have is that it is difficult to locate. If you enjoy art and are in the area, stop by.

I returned to this art museum a few weeks ago and I enjoyed it even more than eight years ago.It was great seeing fine devotional-theme paintings by Taddeo di Bartolo,Hans Memling,Nerroccio Dei Landi,Jacopo D'Barbari("Christ Blessing"),Carlo Dolci,Fra Paolini,Nicolas Bertin,Gaspar de Crayer("Crucifixion"),Edward Steinbruck, and Alphonse Legros, among others again.I also appreciated its fine secular-theme paintings by Paolo Fiammingo,Johannes Storck("Dutch Port Scene"),Jean Leon Gerome("Study for Picador")Jean Corot("Landscape,Limay")Narcise Diaz de la Pena("Stag Hunt"),and Eduard Pingret once more.I also savored its small, but fine collection of 20th Century Art,including splendid paintings by William Glackens,Natalia Goncharova,Gabrielle Munter("Red Cloud"),and Joseph Stella("Virgin and Lilly"),just to mention a few. There is a fairly extensive collection of artifacts from the ancient Olmec Mexican Civilization at this art museum and a smaller collection of South American artifacts(Chavins,Moches, and Nazcas from;Suni from Colombia)at this free art museum. This art museum has added tribal masks from different Nigerian tribes to its collection.Things in this art museum are arranged in a very appealing manner and the staff as usual is very enthusiastic and proud of this art museum.

For a small museum (on Notre Dame's campus), this is a real gem. We thought two hours would be enough time to see it all, but we were mistaken. The collection is quite extensive -- three floors and very wide-ranging. It's also free. The museum staff was also very friendly, greeted us and suggested the exhibits to see since we had limited time. We will go back.

Totally unimpressive. MUCH there I would never call art. I guess if someone throws paint at a canvas they are considered an artist. Not all bad, but not worth the time.

It was difficult to find a place to park especially at 3:00 in the afternoon. The museum closes at 5:00 on Sundays so we didn't have much time but we were there long enough to know we absolutely must return to spend more time there. There is so much history and connection to the Church evident in the collection. A real Must See.

I visited this museum during my second visit and loved the art both contemporary and other. I think in the future, some information on the art pieces in audio form may be good but it is not necessary - the shared beauty enriches the memories. Thank you. God bless all - Notre Dame donors, alumni that they remember the values, integrity what the University and many associated stand for.

Having grown up in South Bend, I'm embarrassed to say that I had never visited the museum. Living out of the area now, I took the time over Easter weekend to do just that. Now I'm almost sad that it took me so long! I was totally blown away by the wonderful and impressive collection. I thoroughly enjoyed spending two hours at the museum. It was quiet, uncrowded and free. I have visited art museums all over the country, and now know what my own hometown has to offer. I would definitely make a return trip.

Did you know there is a very good art museum at Notre Dame? Well, no I didn't but what a delight. More extensive than one would think with all manner of interesting are from many different periods. If one likes art museums, this is a delightful find, nicely laid out, and hardly anyone there. My only criticism which would probably be of all museums, is that it would be nice to have the printed information about each painting or piece in larger print...we are all getting older and reading glasses work, but bigger print would be nice.

Comprehensive collection of various artists and styles. There are also temp shows, with some well known artist, probably the biggest draw in the area for more well known artists. Great photo history collections. Helpful staff. Good for group trips if arranged ahead. Currently is a long walk from the parking area (free if validated) but it is in the works to move to the edge of campus.
