The Bartlett Aboretum in Belle Plaine Kansas is south of Wichita, six miles southeast of Mulvane's Exit 33 of the I-35. It's northeast of Wellington, exit number 19.Besides the glorious but serene natural beauty and a wide variety of native plants and mature trees, it hosts irregular weekend performances from the spring through the fall, with mostly folk, traditional and blue grass musicians and small groups. The stage setting is a in small creekside glen close to the winding Ninnescah River. Concert goers sit on folding chairs only yards away. Seeing eye dogs only. The facility director is Robin Macy, one of the original Dixie Chicks, who gave up potential fame and fortune for this bucolic existence. http://www.bartlettarboretum.com/contact.php

This was one of the best afternoons I spent. Beautiful grounds and there was music and food to enjoy. Loved it and the people there were wonderful and informative.

Much more than an arboretum, this is a relaxing place any one of any age can enjoy. The garden is lovely year round, the musical events superb and the overall atmosphere one of peace. My 85 year old dad has been going here for 75 years ( whenever it has been open) and my twin 2 year old grandsons are now big fans, too. Check the website or call before you visit, the arboretum is only open "for special events, by appointment or by accident".
