ellis lakeside campground

We stayed in Ellis while on a cross-country motorhome trip with two young kids. We just pulled off the interstate and drove down into this neat little town with a campground right on the water. It was so 'small-town', very quaint, beautiful. And a super-nice Ellis police officer (Sgt. ?) came by to collect our camping fee - he warmly welcomed us and talked to us for a while. Even in our very short visit we thought it was such a wonderful little place. And the sunflowers were everywhere, even painted on the streets!So now, the story: one of the kids we took on that trip is now married with two kids of her own. They were were recently searching very hard for a house to buy (in our town). I just kind of off-hand asked her husband: 'well, where'd she want to live if she could live anywhere she wanted?' He simply smiled and said: "she'd live in Ellis, Kansas"... tears just swelled up in my eyes.She was only there overnight when she was 13 years old -she's now 25- but {she remembers Ellis and still dreams of living there}. THAT is the kind of impact a small, friendly, pretty little town can have on people. Ellis should be proud.

Handy to the cross country goer. Nice view for west Kansas. Within walking distance of the Chrysler Home and Museum.

We stopped here after leaving Topeka took around 3.5 hrs. On our way to Colorado, not many other choices. Quiet and clean along side a river. Level sites nice grills and tables. Safe and clean perfect

We found this little gem of a RV park in downtown Ellis, Ks. It has pull through sites with 30 amp hookups, water, dump site. The great thing it's NOT by Hwy, or railroad, so it quiet. It self service, and the local police stop by to pickup the low fee for staying. Everyone we run into are very friendly.
