We drove-up for the day from Kansas City after having seen one of Parker's original carousels out in Abilene, Kansas a few years ago. The museum houses an absolutely superb collection of Parker related material, and the guided tour volunteer was highly engaging and informative. If that weren't enough to make it a memorable day, while we were there, the Governor of Kansas, Sam Brownback, arrived for a visit while in the city to discuss business with Leavenworth County officials. Certainly a day our kids will never forget, no mistake about that!
This very old, working carousel is wonderful. Children and adults alike enjoy the ride. Thevolunteers are very friendly. It is very reasonable and not something you get to see everyday.
This is closed in Jan. For maintenance. But we will go back, looks like the right place to take grandchildren!
The C.W. Parker Carousel Museum is the #1 attraction in Leavenworth, KS and the largest carousel museum in the nation. The museum is a great place to learn about vintage family entertainment, historic Leavenworth and more. The 1913 carousel housed there is antique, wooden and hand-crafted, but it's super fast! People of all ages enjoy it. The price of a couple of hours here includes a tour, a ride on the carousel, a video on C.W. Parker and the industry and an opportunity to visit their gift shop. It's also a great place for a birthday party, meeting or other special event. The museum even hosts events through the year like the upcoming Small Mall.
The C. W. Parker Carousel Museum in Leavenworth, KS will stir the nostalgic recollections for many. This is a true stroll down memory lane as you ride the carousel and listen to the calliope music and the children laughing and squealing. A nice place to take young children for the ride on the carousel and for us oldsters alike as we can review and learn the history of this grand old attraction.
If you are interested, you can spend a lot of time looking at the history of carousel horses. My grandsons and I spent an hour including the ride... Probably should have gone during a 'family night'.
Great place to visit! The tour was interesting as was the short movie. The carousel was beautiful & fun to ride. The personnel were friendly & courteous.
We needed to kill a couple hours with the kids, so we stopped by here to ride the carousel. The kids (ages 5 and 7) LOVED it, and rides were cheap enough, so we let them ride twice. The carousel itself is spectacular. The volunteers said all but one of the animals on it were at least 100 years old. All beautiful, surprisingly swift-moving and the air-driven "band" that provided the music was amazing. Volunteers running the museum said that the museum portion wouldn't be too entertaining for our kids, so we skipped it, but they had a great time on the carousel and enjoyed walking by the nearby river park. A great and inexpensive way to kill a little time w kids.
Carousel is really fast and fun! If you get the right tour guide you will get a wonderful history lesson about carousels and Leavenworth. Nice gift shop. Will be back!
Not in a macabre sense, but I enjoyed a Twilight Zone "Kick the Can" moment. The staff was delightful and we had a great time telling stories over a jigsaw puzzle.
The staff and owners are grumpy, grumpy and................GRUMPY. Won't be going again. Don't care how great the carousels are.
We took our 5 year old niece to the carousel museum and she loved it. We all had a great time riding the old Carousel. They have the oldest working carousel in the world. Also they have a cute music box that plays off of paper.
We had so much fun here! The staff were so friendly & welcoming. They have a huge, wonderful gift shop. All the history & information on carousels was amazing! We even rode the 1913 carousel #118 twice! It's got great speed to it, I got sea sick from the ride! But it was worth it!!!We also saw their Primitive Carousel, built in 1850, it is the oldest operating wooden carousel in the United States!!! And also their Liberty Carousel, built in 1950's, has it's own wheels & is portable! See pictures.Their tours last 45 minutes so please allow enough time when you visit. You can visit without taking a tour & still do the carousel ride.

A delightful journey back through time! The C.W. Parker museum houses 3 beautiful carousels: a 1913 wooden carousel for the whole family, a 1950's aluminum carousel just for kids, and a primitive hand-cranked machine for display only as well as a wonderful assortment of carvings from many different carvers and countries including a Dentzel rabbit and a Bayol pig.
