Just returned from another visit to Prairie Band Casino (north of Topeka, KS). The hotel rooms are very nice, and excellent beds. We had excellent entrees and service at the steakhouse, and enjoyed the breakfast buffet @ The Longhouse Buffet.
One of the casinos on my trip list to visit. Arrived late evening on a Saturday, played for a two hours, lost $500 (penny slots). I had to find a hotel as the wee hours approaching. They were booked solid so the staff helped me find a hotel within a 15 mile radius. The Players Club staff were very kind and courteous. Several restaurants and a beautiful hotel. Visited the Golden Eagle in the morning and won my money back, and a few $$$ extra, to replace what I lost at Prairie Band. To be blunt, I was not impressed with Prairie Band, a Potawotomi Nation casino. I will admit their food was reasonably priced and good. Even though it was rated #1 by its community, it's not #1 in my book.
The car's headlights wouldn't come on no matter what we tried, and the casino let us spend the night on them, You just don't find places that will help you out like that...
Gambling is gambling. The facility is top notch but only giving 3 stars because of the smoke. I'm not a smoke nazi but don't wear your nice clothes unless you don't mind them smelling like cheap Indian cigarettes. Every smoker in Kansas meets and fires away.
Sometimes we break even, sometimes we go home a little richer - sometimes we don't. It is a fun casino, the atmosphere is upbeat and the games - well, its a gamble. Like any casino - prepare to lose and be happy if you don't. I've seen some reviews that complain about the smoke. In my opinion, as a non-smoker, it's not that bad - usually. Several years ago it was worse, but the ventilation is pretty decent, maybe if you're really sensitive it might be worse, and of course sometimes someone will sit down right next to you with a stinky cigar - yuk!
That the stay was free for a pretty nice Hotel! Rooms are clean...Service is good..... people are friendly and helpful
We enjoy going to Prairie Band, but the smoke is a killer there. I soooooo wish that casinos in Kansas were non-smoking!
We wanted to stay at the Casino, but didn't realize the rooms you actually pay for were so small. The las time we stayed we had a free room and it was huge with a garden tub. This time around the room was $93.00 with no tub and two double beds. They also charge a extra hundred dollars to your card until you check out. The buffet was really good and did not coast the family a arm and a leg. Staff is really friendly. Little lower price and the place would be awesome.
We were looking up steak places in Topeka and their restaurant popped up. We enjoy casinos and were planning to be in KC that night for the Willie Nelson concert the next day, but decided to eat, play, and stay here. We broke about even in the casino - the money we use is what my husband would have smoked away before he quit - and played for quite a while. The food and the hotel were nice, though a bit expensive, which is why we only gave 4 stars.
