This museum has so much history packed inside the small building and also has a great display of vehicles and aircraft outside. A must see museum if you are in Topeka.
There are simply too many items in this place to really see everything. They have a HUGE collection of some of the best diorama's I've seen in a long time. Too fully appreciate this place, plan on spending a couple hours to be able to look over everything.
A very well presented history of the Kansas National Guard form its inception to present day involvement in the security of the United States. So many exhibits and items from various times in the guards history and deployment in wars over the years. So much to see including a setting from the TV show MASH. Everyone there was helpful in explaining as much as one wanted to know about the guard. Army helicopters and other military vehicles out doors to look at close up. Even my wife enjoyed the museum.
I have been here just as many times as I have been to The Combat Air Museum. I always like going through the display cases and seeing the ordnance and saying "I have one of those in my war room." Very informative and always enjoy visiting the machinery outside as well.
If you have any interest in anything military, this is a worthwhile stop. The museum contains lots of military historical items like uniforms, jeeps, weapons, photographs and information about the items on display. I saw items from the Civil War right up through recent times. A real unexpected gem is a replica of a set from MASH. The officers' tent known as The Swamp is on display just as it appeared in the TV show. Outside the museum is a nice collection of everything from tanks to aircraft. This is a surprising little gem for MASH buffs and for free it is a must see if going to the neighboring combat air museum.
