We stopped at Hanalei Bay on our drive around the Island of Kauai. This is a great beach for swimming , paddle boarding, surfing or just playing in the sand. There is a pier with boardwalk that extends over the water that is a perfect place to take photos or just to take a look around. You can definitely see why they have shot movies at this location!
Great beach and safe swimming for families, excellent for sunset photography great beach walking too.
This u-shaped beach was just amazing. Fantastic views, nice sand and swimming area. Plenty of restaurants close by.
Large horseshoe shaped beach, great for walking. Great beach for kids, boogie boarding, beginning surfers, and even a #1 taco truck, Pat's Taqeria.
Just like everybody said, the beach is lovely, with calm and clear water and not crowded. But for a movie fan like me the highlight was jogging along the beach and standing at the house where George Clooney did in the great 2011 movie the Descendants. It was filmed in Hawaii with some key scenes shot right on Hanalei Bay.
We stopped in and jumped off the pier. It was a neat experience and such a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the view. I love Kauai and recommend coming out and enjoying this beach. My daughters 9 & 13 enjoyed swimming and the current at the time was perfect.
Hanalei Bay is breath taking, beautifull, peacefull, dreamy, warm, and did i say breath taking? - the beaches are stunning, stunning and stunning. The back drop to the beaches is a volcano with clouds.. hard to describe except beautifull. The lifeguards are the best anywere.. very nice and professional and felt very safe with them there as the waves were really high when we visited but nice to swim in and sunny!! Hope to see it again some day!!
This town is fantastic. Great shops like Hot Rocket T-Shirts. Stop at Kalypso's for the best sandwiches and drinks in town. The pier is stunning with good views of Bali Hai. Stop to Hanalei everytime.
We loved our time at Hanalei Bay beach. The scenery is absolutely breath-taking, the beach is large and uncrowded, & the lifeguards super helpful. We spent hours here, and then came back again a few days later because this is such an awesome beach! The surf was high our 1st afternoon here, perfect for body surfing and boogie boarding. When we returned a few days later it was very calm, like a completely different beach but still lots of fun for the kids.
Just beautiful. We visited in the evening and were the only ones there. Just perfect and so very clean and views to die for
wonderful bay. so beautiful to view. the beach is big. I enjoyed swimming here. The water is so calm. One of my favorite spots on the island
Hanalei Bay is very unique for a beach. There are a lot of reasons to like it.1. The beach is pretty big so you don't have to worry about being crowded by a ton of other people.2. The water is very calm. This makes it great for a lot of activities like stand-up paddle boarding, swimming, or just relaxing in the water. 3. The water isn't very deep making it easy for families to enjoy the water together. In most cases, you can see all the way to the bottom looking down. 4. There are beach activities and equipment to rent right on the beach. 5. There are sometimes some good food trucks nearby. If not, there are a couple good restaurants in town. We really like Kalypso. This is a great place to spend an afternoon.
If you travel to Kauai, make sure to visit the North Shore, and especially Hanalei Bay. This area is Garden Isle Perfection. We have visited Kauai many times, but always stayed in Poipu or Kapaa. What a shame we missed the best part! From now on North Shore will be our destination. It is quiet, but not too far from action if that is what you seek. The bay is gorgeous! So tranquil and relaxing. Try the food trucks in town for some of the best local favorites.
This beach is awesome for many reasons, from the views, the water, accessible activities, the town and of course the beach itself. It has amazing views of the mountains that surround it and on a clear day after rains you can see up to 3 water falls from the there. You can catch the views from all around the north part of the island before you enter down into Hanalei. There is a great view point on the road (hairpin turn pull off) prior to the single lane bridge. The beach is clean and large with a lifeguard tower for safety. Awesome shoreline with a variety of water terrain up and down it which allows for surfing, swimming, body boarding, etc. There is a pier that goes out about 60yds and provides a great view into the ocean and you're able to jump off of it safely with a ladder to climb back up.There are breaks here for novice surfers and experienced including several surf schools in the area for lessons and rentals. Although the day we attempted to surf, the breaks for beginners were not the greatest (I'd recommend Kalapaki in the SE for learning). You also have access to the Hanalei river from there where you can paddle board, kayak, fish, etc. There's usually a food truck in the parking lot if you're hungry, but if not, the town of Hanalei is only 5 min from the beach park and offers shopping, restaurants, grocery store, etc. There's nice grassy areas for picnics and hanging out off the beach, along with horse shoe pits, restrooms and wash facilities. You can also camp on this beach on the weekends with a permit.
Hanalei Bay is one of the most beautiful spots on earth. I have been here for almost 20 years and its circle of perfect beaches with amazing mountains in the background make for some of the best memories and photo-ops on Kauai. Be sure to walk out on the pier. Before swimming, check water quality reports (in summer) and definitely waves heights and rips in winter months. Say hi to the life guard and check on conditions. He would rather fill you in than go out and rescue him.Have fun and tread lightly on Kauai please.
