If you're meandering through this part of Wisconsin, stop for a minute and take a look, it's fun to see dinosaurs that look so happy.
This is very unique in what has been made and being displayed. After a couple of times of visiting, it has worn off.
Stopped one day on a whim with my son, glad we did, always good to see something different.
I first learned of Prairie Moon through the book "Weird Wisconsin". It is nearby my partners family farm and could see it from the highway. This past weekend we went over there and it was as interesting, whimsical and enjoyable as I thought it would be. I highly recommend stopping in if you get to that area of Wisconsin.
free! Interesting sculptures and it is a self tour place. Go at your own leisure. I was born around here and grew up with it. I knew the old man who founded it.
This is a fascinating collection of concrete and stone sculptures by an entirely self-taught artist. In 1959, Herman Rusch, 74, built his first concrete and stone planter. By the close of 1974, Rusch had created nearly forty huge concrete, stone, and rock sculptures, using inventive fabrication techniques and materials including bricks, iron wheels, old grain drills, crockery, glass, and seashells; plus related flower beds. The museum was closed when we were there on a Friday afternoon in October, but the garden was pleasant, and the kids loved pretending they were helping the hunter fight the bear, or were petting the dinosaurs, or hiding behind Rapunzel's castle. We enjoyed seeing the techniques and materials he used, and the wide variety of subjects he chose. Two miles south of town on Prairie Moon Rd.; look for the giant gray building with the orange full moon painted on the side.
