My 4 year old son has been eagerly watching the train go by our backyard all his life, but we waited until we felt he was old enough to really ENJOY a trip on it (and to make the cost of the ticket worthwhile). It was a wonderful experience, particularly the realistic old-timey decorating of the station and train, plus the friendly jovial nature of the conductor.
My 4 year old daughter, her 4 year old cousin, his mom and I all rode this back and forth between East Troy and Elegant Farmer as much as we could on a beautiful September day. This was a lot of fun for the kids, and they both enjoyed ice cream at the old fashioned ice cream parlor in East Troy.
You don't have to be railroad fan or a history buff to enjoy this simple glimpse of a time long since past. Every thing about the operation is old, 100 plus years in most cases. Run as a volunteer operation for many years these people are real troopers and put out their heart and soul into their work to make your time with them a great experience. This operation offers many attractions through out the year and it would be best to check the web site if you are looking for something special. The real treats are at both ends of the ride one being the Elegant Farmer and at the other end the ice cream store.
From the time you purchase your tickets to the very end you feel like you have just taken a ride through time when trains like this brought people in and out of Milwaukee. The volunteers are kind and knowledgeable. The give historical information along the way. My family absolutely enjoyed this ride.
The volunteers were fun and very informative. I went with my group of Red Hatters and although we knew the train was not handicap accessible none of us had a hard time getting on the train. If you can do steps, you can board the train.
What a great treat!! A must do for all ages. The kids really love it! Take a step back in time and ride the rail cars from yesteryear. The train leaves from either East Troy, WI or The Elegant Farmer. Lots of history, unique gift items and delicious food and souvenirs. In East Troy cross the tracks and step back in time and have a scoop of hand dipped ice cream or at The Elegant Farmer grab your fresh apple pie baked in a bag....good stuff, great family fun!
We boarded from the Elegant Farmer in East Troy, and road into town, then stopped at the railroad museum. A must-do for train or history enthusiasts- a lovely time.
We've been on the railroad twice and are going to go a third time this year! Our daughter absolutely loves riding the trains, and we love heading down to the Elegant Farmer when we ride. All the conductors are extremely nice and very knowledgeable about the history of the railroad and the train cars. The museum is quite interesting with the history of the Interurban system in the Wisconsin and Illinois areas. In addition, they occasionally run Family Pizza train rides, as well as elegant dining catered rides. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in SE Wisconsin history and/or anyone who has kids interested in trains. And don't forget that your ticket will get you 10% off at the Elegant Farmer deli!!!
Our grandsons really loved the train ride which should be followed by a visit to Laubers for ice cream.
this is such a unique attraction, we are local and have been so many times. WE LOVE TRAINS ! If you love trains, you must go,
A great little railroad museum, with some cool restored trolleys and trains from the Milwaukee and Chicago area. Nice ride to the Elegant Farmer's market, a fun trip for tourists. Looking forward to coming back to try a dinner train!
The electric trains that leave the East Troy Rail Museum take you back to a time when rail cars ran on overhead electric lines. Add to that some very friendly, storytelling conductors and you have a fun family experience. This experience gets better if you take one of the trains on Friday, Saturday or Sunday because those trains make a stop at the Elegant Farmer Depot. The Elegant Farmer is a large working farm that holds yearlong events and has a large store that provides a gourmet shopping experience. Here you will find the infamous apple pie in a bag, cheeses and meats, jellies, jams and honey and a wealth of fresh produce from local farms. You can shop til your heart is content, then hop back on the electric train that will take you back to the Rail Museum in East Troy where you parked, while you most likely will hear during your ride another story from the train conductor. Last train leaves the Elegant Farmer depot at 3 p.m.The trains run all summer, with special event and dinner trains also scheduled throughout the year. Upcoming at the Elegant Farmer is their Old Fashioned Farm Fair on July 20.
Took part in the dinner train experience on the 15th of June. Museum has a little layout and kid activated sounds. Building is a working station with a generator supplying the trains with power. Street car rides through the countryside to the Eloquent Farmer, and back. The same route is used for the Dinner/Pizza train but goes farther onto Muckwanago, and then back. The dinner was great and served by an attentive staff. Even without the dinner part the station/museum is well worth it. The Museum is free. Rides are all day $12.50 for adults. Other discounts apply. See there website. East Troy Electric Railroad.
As part of a convention group, we enjoyed an evening meal on board the East Troy Historic Electric Dinner Train. It is a slow ride, to facilitate the serving and enjoying of the meal, but we had a great trip and the meal was exceptional...and the staff on board the train was super!
Great sense of history and educational with a trip to Elegant Farmer and back as a trip. Great family fun.
