the orchard store at old homestead

I've stopped to this place twice in Sept an Oct 2013. The apples that I picked were nice and firm on the first time. The 2nd time I visited I asked for Honeycrisp but was told that you could not pick them and you could only purchase Honeycrisp that was already picked by workers. About 2 days after I got home, I bit into the Honeycrisp and it had a "meally texture." I tried several ones and got the same texture. I bought Honeycrisp apples at a store and found them to be very firm and not a "meally" texture that I got from the already picked ones from Old Homestead. I have sent 3 emails inquiring about this and I have not received any replies over the course of 2-1/2 weeks. I continue to get emails from Old Homestead announcing sales on their products but they DO NOT reply concerns about his apples. The 2 bags of Honeycrisp that I bought WERE NOT cheap and I am about 75 miles away. If this is the way they do business I will go somewhere else.

This is a small orchard, but we went with family and had a great time. (It wasn't anywhere as commercialized as some of the other nearby apple picking farms.) They have a variety of apples that you can pick yourself, such as Jonathon, Wolf River, Ida Red and Golden Delicious (call ahead to confirm availability). Also many more available in store, such as Honeycrisp, Red Delicious, McIntosh, as well as some pears. They have a store with other items including popcorn, honey, cider, maple syrup and jam. When we were there, they also had baby goats, that you could feed.A nice afternoon between Racine and Milwaukee.
