Great place to to plant a camper, float down the river & enjoy live music up at the venue area of the campground along with friendly people. The grounds are clean & so are the bathrooms.
We go rafting every year on the Wolf river and we always camp nearby at the River Forest Wolf River campground. I recommend going rafting through Big Smokey Falls rather than Shotgun Eddies as the latter has strict rules, overcharges, and time restrictions. Don't miss the wet T-shirt contest either along the river!
We rented a pontoon from the Pine Grove Resort. Spent the day cruising the river. People were friendly and there was a lot of traffice!
My wife and I enjoyed floating down the Wolf River. There was a nice variety of white water as the water was fairly high. On this day, it was close to a 3. Sun was out so it was both relaxing and good for a tan. Make sure to use sun screen. Good way to spend a few hours.
Do the tubing at Wolf River Campgrounds, so much fun!! The cost for the tubes have risen in recent years due to increased popularity, but it is still a very fun way to spend an afternoon!
I received a marvelous Christmas present this year. Whitewater kayaking lessons on the Wolf River in the marvelous Wisconsin northwoods. I enrolled with Bear Paw Outdoor for their Intro to Whitewater Kayaking class. We learned some basic "survival skills" on Boulder Lake then went over to the river to test our new skills. The water lever was a bit low, so instead of running a longer stretch of the river we took several trips down the rapids at Gilmore's Mistake. You might think that not getting to run the river was a negative, and so did until I got a chance to try my skills on Gilmore's. This combination of three small waterfalls is usually too difficult for beginners, but thanks to the low water and a talented group we got to work our way through what is typically a Class III rapid. Admittedly, it was a Class II+ on this day, but it was still a blast. If you are any kind of adrenaline junky and haven't tried whitewater kayaking then you have to do it. And Wisconsin actually has quite a few great places to experience this sport. Just realize that anything that is this much fun isn't cheap.
The Wolf River hooks into Shawano Lake. Shawano Lake also hooks into Washington Lake. So this gives visitors lots of room to explore for boating, fishing, swimming, etc. The Wolf River also offers great white water rafting. And the Wolf River offers the Mennominee Indian Pow Wow in early August. Plus the Mennominee Casino is located in Keshena, WI, just north of Shawano, by the Wolf. Live free music weekends, and name acts such as Charlie Daniels and Tanya Tucker for $40!! Great shows.
The campground is very nice. Has all the appropriate ameneities. The showers are clean and private and the bathrooms are never far. Make sure to get there early because there is a big line to get on the bus. You can get your tube early and then go on the tubing ride later. They ran out of "good" tubes when we were there so like i said get up early and at least get your tube. Also check the water level before you go. I would say this event is not children friendly I would recommend at least teenagers before I would take the kids. Have a great time
Besonders ist der Fluss zu empfehlen, wenn im April die Störe dort ausgesetzt werden ... das Wasser ist sauber und im Sommer kann man im Fluss sogar baden. Alles ist sehr ursprünglich!
