tyrol basin ski & snowboard area

My husband and I chose Tyrol for our first time skiing. We got a complimentary lesson and our instructor was great. Really took his time to help each of us. We were slow and fell a few times and no one was pushy or rude. We felt very comfortable and had a great time!!

good runs for all skiers, no lines, family friendly great with kids. easy going. staff is very helpful.found this place on liftopia.com. they had a price of 21.96 on the sunday that it snowed majorly in Chicago. 1st time there and definatly would go back!LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!

Don't expect rolling hills and mile long runs as you are not in Colorado folks. You are however a short drive from most places and can still have fun! They have a great snow board area and half pipe for those that don't ski. The upper bar/resting area is nice and has some unique decor but the lower food area could use a facelift. The staff are friendly and it's nice to have a place so close to Madison to get out and enjoy the countryside. Very peaceful.

I had no idea you could get married at Tyrol in the summer. It was a beautiful day. The view was amazing. I love this place.

Small little ski area with some Good runs. Terrain park is good for the boarders. There's no lodging at the ski hill, but there is a restaurant. They have equipment rentals of all types. The staff is very friendly and I appreciate the way the lift guys handle the chairs. Nice and smooth! Go have fun.

I have grown up snowboarding at Tyrol basin since I was 5 years old I is my favorite place to snowboard in the mid-west. Theres always good vibes and the park crew always keeps the set up new and creative.

This is the closest skiing/snowboarding area to Madison. The hills aren't great, but it gets the job done. The season pass is pretty reasonable. I've gotten it for around $250. You also get a free one-day ski pass, which you can use for a friend. For those that just want to ski recreationally once in a while, I'd recommend going on Tuesday nights. The lift tickets are only $12. As the ski season progresses, usually there are more discounts during weekdays. Parking is cramped, but I've never had trouble finding parking.

It was nice and big, not too crowded or anything, the resort was really nice. the staff was good too.

we always have fun here, nice variety of hills and runs for this part of the country. There is a bar for afterwards to warm up, and they have rentals. I usually upgrade my gear by purchasing their old rentals which are usually a great deal.

I’m sorry you did not have the same experience as our other guests. Safety is a top priority at the resort. Not only do we have full maintenance and lift departments, we have over 80 National Ski Patrollers. The Patrollers not only monitor the slopes, but provide first aid and emergency care if needed, for free. You are correct that on specified event days we will close off a couple of runs out of 17 for a portion of the day. These occurrences, however, are published ahead of time on our website, and followed up with reminders on our Facebook page and our e-mail newsletter. On busy days, there will be lines. That is the case at any U.S. or European ski areas. Portable toilets are brought in when necessary for busy event weekends, in addition to the two restrooms in the rental area, one in Mountain Services, and two on each level of the chalet. We do offer alcohol to our guests age 21 and over that drink responsibly. This is also in line with millions of other businesses throughout the U.S. We do have “alcohol free” areas in the Chalet and the Café if you prefer not to sit in the bar.

We have been skiing at Tyrol Basin for about five years. They have excellent terrain for every level of skier. We usually go during the week to avoid the crowds. Since we are seniors we only pay $12.00 each for the lift ticket. You are able to ski until 4:00 P.M. for this rate. Tuesday the lift tickets are also $12.00 for all day until closing. It can get very busy on Tuesday evenings.This is a very small ski area as far as ammenities. The restaurant is what you expect at a ski area. Not exceptional, but it will do for a quick lunch and warm up if needeed. The lift attendants are very friendly and handle the chairs well. I have been at other ski areas where they could care less and the chair has hit me in the back of the kness knocking me onto the chair. This has never happened to me at Tyrol. The entire staff is very pleasant. The runs are well groomed and there is a very nice terrain area for the boarders. Ther is no lodging at the ski hill. You will need to go to town, there is only one motel there. Otherwise, you will find plenty of motels in The Madison area.

Visited for a friends wedding. Beautiful drive down the hill to the lodge. Food was scrumptious and staff did a great job juggling on a rainy day!

Thank you for writing about your recent experience. At Tyrol Basin our goal is to be both skier and snowboarder friendly. The number of people on the sloes and the types of equipment we see, vary by day and time of the week. We hope you'll try us again when it may not be as busy. We also try to provide variety with great terrain parks for freeskiers and snowboarders. But, even then, only 4 of our 17 runs contain park features or the half-pipe. That means 13 more runs available for those who just want a pleasant tree-lined slopes!

We went there during the summer so I can't comment on the skiiing. We went here for a wedding and loved the place. Very kitschy and cute. It made me smile.

Tyrol is a great place to ski/snowboard. It isn't all that expensive compared to places in the nearby area. There are about 12 runs i believe, all of varrying dificulty. It was a long time since i had skied, and boy was i sore. But it was deffinately worth the $.
