I've lived in Racine for over 13 years and first visited this museum on February 17, 2015. I've been meaning to get there and just never had time. It is a small art museum with only 3 galleries but the admission is only $5 for adults with discounts for seniors and children. Plus it is free every 1st Friday of each month. Check out their website for whats currently on exhibit as the exhibits rotate. I was lucky to go when they had an exhibit with alot of local artists works on display. I spent about 2 hours here and it was well worth the $5. If you arrive after 1:00pm the parking garage adjacent to the museum is only $2.00. Otherwise you can use meter parking. I will definetly go back again.
Right on the Main Street is a modern, 2 level museum with amazing displays of craft artists. Beautifully displayed and well labelled. It is a great way to spend an hour. The gift shop is full of beautiful items to buy.
We visited the R.A.M. while visiting friends in Racine for the Fourth of July. The primary exhibits on the day we visited focused on children's fairy tales/stories and variations thereof (occasionally very adult and fantastical). There was enough to see for a one to two hour visit, just right for enjoying and learning, without reaching the point of fatigue or overload. When you're done, there's a variety of good restaurants on Main Street.
Racine County is so lucky to have such a high end Art Museum. My girlfriends and I were there for the annual Peeps Exhibit. It's just what the name says: local folks make art out of Peeps. It's so much fun! Admission is free on 1st Friday's, so check it out.
The art museum has very modern art & many tea pots. However, you should go during the spring to see their Peep exhibit where people make various scenes using the candy Peeps. It is spectacular!!
Well worth it if visiting downtown Racine! Make sure you hit North Beach, the lighthouse on Wind Point and the zoo!
The Racine Art Museum (RAM) is a beautiful small museum in downtown Racine.........a 30 minute drive from the Milwaukee airport.........the same distance from Chicago's Northern Suburbs as a drive to the Chicago Art Institute on a weekend day. The focus is the Studio Craft Movement..........art made from glass, clay, fibers and metals (think jewelry) and RAM is the best and most important of this kind in the USA....possibly anywhere. Check the website, see what shows are up and go for a visit. Not to forget, a great retail operation as well.
Spectacular museum to browse around in and see all the wonderful art pieces and special art displays! Very friendly staff willing to show you around or answer any questions!
This museum is a local treasure and a pleasure to visit. They have a specialty of American crafts. Different and definitely very interesting. They also have very good art classes, and a wonderful gift shop. Definitely worth a stop, and just two blocks from the Racine Heritage Museum, which is also a interesting small museum.
This small museum has an excellent, well curated collection of contemporary art. Wonderful jewelry, teapots, sculptures. An important part of the community.A good gift shop - unusual items.Be sure to eat down the street at Deweys.
Went there twice. First time it was $5 a person, second time was free on first friday of the month. Two floors filled with craft art. Paintings, sculpture, glass, jewelry, carvings, clothing and furniture. If you've got an hour or two stop in. Well worth it. Exhibits change every few months.
The Racine Art Museum was a pleasant taste of culture in Racine. We stopped at the Racine Art Museum on our way to Milwaukee. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. The exhibits were diverse and attractive. I particularly liked the various creative tea pots that were on display. There was a great gift shop with cute, clever and creative items. The admission price of $5 is very reasonable. What do you have to lose? Besides after you go to the museum you can walk a few blocks to the East and enjoy the beautiful lake front or stay on Main Street and browse some of the boutiques in the area.
Not much here for what you pay to get in as far as I'm concerned. Go to the free museums in Kenosha, much more fun for kids too! You can ride the electric street cars, splash in the fountains, visit the Jelly Belly factory. If visiting the area, I would recommend Kenosha over Racine. If looking for a good beach, Silver Lake is wonderful!
We have been there several times over the last year or so and it is always enjoyable to visit. There are days through-out the year where Kids activities are highlighted and they do a great job with it. Worth a visit.
Open space with unusual changing collections. Gift shop has nice selection. Worth a stop in downtown Racine
