An interesting collection of materials, focused heavily but not solely on the local area. Significant thought and care went into selecting and arranging the materials exhibited.
I have been vacationing in the St. Germain, Sayner, Eagle River area for 50 years and for me I loved visiting this museum. I learned a lot about the area and it was fun to see the history of the resort I have stayed at displayed here along with my friend's mother's wedding dress, who used to own a resort on Little St. Germain Lake :)
Very quaint museum with lots of photos and info of early Eagle River. However the memories my partner had of a locomotive that had been there when he was young and a resort that he used to stay at was missing from the info. He was frustrated by that. The gentleman working there was helpful, but could not find what we were looking for.
The Military Memories Exhibit offers a historical trip through time. The exhibit of photographs, uniforms of Vilas County veterans and documentation reflect the rich heritage of the World War I and World War II eras. The logging exhibit features life in the North Woods at the turn of the century featuring 100's of exclusive photos of logging activities. Well worth the trip, something for everyone.
We have been here several times and the history of the northwoods (and particularly the material about the old summer camps) is very well presented. The snowmobile museum is attached to it. There is a small admission.
