Let me just say its really small but we like it because its free and the petting zoo is really nice for the kids they have pigs, cows, lambs, goats in the petting zoo and you can feed the animals for 25c which is not a bad price at all the other part of the zoo is not so great they have ducks, a monkey, donkeys, fox, and other birds, deer that's about it the zoo hasn't changed for at least 20 years I wish they would of changed something and made it a little bigger we like parking at the park by the river and walking there which is nice theres a nice trail that runs behind the zoo also so you can take a nice walk on the river walk and take the trail back overall great zoo for the kids but wouldn't recommend if you don't have any kids

Although not a large zoo, it was certainly worth a visit and offered a great variety to entertain our toddler for the afternoon. Included a Petting farm to feed a few goats and sheep, as well as a playground and plenty of shade. Lovely flower gardens, too.

It will not take long to cover the grounds of the Wisconsin Rapids Zoo, unless you are following a toddler! That's part of the draw for families with young children. There are a few unusual animals to visit, as well as a wonderful petting zoo, which allows little ones to get close and personal with some baby animals. Children may feed some of these, for a small purchase of appropriate food. Interesting gardens catch your attention as well. A playground and small picnic area help to provide everything needed for a family outing. Summer hours.

When visiting WR I have taken my 3 year old to the zoo. He loves the up close feel and variety of the animals. There are a number of animals to see along with a petting zoo area. The zoo is very well taken care of-the grounds are clean and well kept. The addition of all the beautiful plants and flowers are a great touch. It's a great place to visit and spend a few hours with your little ones. Definitely a good find!

If you go to the Wisconsin Rapids Municipal Zoo expecting elephants, lions, and giant pandas. then you might be disappointed. It is a small zoo, and it's free. It has a wonderful small animal area for the children to go and get "hands on" with the animals. They can feed them, stroke them, and generally get up close and personal with them. This section includes (at the time of my visit, June 2013) kids, a piglet, lambs, rabbits, and two large African spurred tortoises. Hand sanitizer is provided, and for 25c the children can buy a small amount of feed. The duck pond features a number of unusual birds; geese, ducks and other things which I felt really ought to have had a descriptive plaque by them, as I had no idea which they were. The largest animals are a zedonk (half donkey, half zebra), a donkey, llamas, and a bison (sorry if I have any of them wrong) and in the medium-sized category were ring-tailed lemurs, a porcupine, a coatimundi, a cavy and some peacocks. The flower gardens are beautiful and feature the sterling work of the Wood County Master Gardeners. These have a few mini-gardens within, like the faerie garden, butterfly garden and a few others. There is also a lot of sculpture to be seen there. There are vending machines for food and drink and a decent-sized playground and picnic area. Helen's Zoo House is opened up for special occasions, when sometimes animals visit from other zoos, or guest speakers appear.I can easily spend an hour or two with my son, and having got one visit in at the beginning of summer, we will certainly be back before the end to get another go!
