You can get your exercise and see Geneva Lake at the same time. Come on out for a hike on the public lake path that encircles the lake. It will take you all day, if you have the stamina to walk the whole thing; but plan your route first, your entry and exit point, and wear stable footwear.Homeowners must allow pedestrians to transit across their lake-front properties, and homeowners, George Williams College, various villages and resort owners provide path maintenance. This, however, is of quality as variable as the people across whose property you are walking. It is of course also affected by the lakeside topography, which can be muddy, rocky, root-entangled, slanted, slick or steep. There are only a few public access points to the path. Dogs must be on leashes at all times, and the public is advised to stay on the path. Bicycles are generally prohibited. The path is quite narrow, accommodating only two people at most, shoulder to shoulder. To these common sense rules, I would add another: use your indoor voices while on the path. Voices carry across the water, and it is very disturbing to be awakened first thing, or shocked while in the middle of reading a good book on one's porch, by a parade of hikers, hooting, hollering, and laughing as they march along. Good manners and strict observance of the rules will make use of the Geneva Lake Shore Path pleasant for all.

We headed out late afternoon, the weather was brisk, perfect before finding a place to eat dinner. Got some great sunset photos as well

Just take it in pieces ! I think the total walk is 22(?) miles , There are guide books you can buy, which make the hike more interesting because they highlight the historic estates . Most of the trail is family friendly BUT less hearty walkers might need their strollers or shorter adventures. A friend of mine and her two school age kids barely made it from Williams bay beach to Fontana . She never forgave me . Parts of the walk by Stone Manor are rocky and narrow. Be aware of private property ! Stay on the trail .

This was a super fun part of my trip! It was a nice day and very sunny. A little cold by the lake, but overall the walk was worth it. The homes are beautiful and mindblowing.

The walk is a must do anytime of day. Walking to the West takes you to the big houses of Wrigley...very nice and you can walk it at any pace. We've walked to Williams Bay...7 miles and a few hills.

Can you walk 26 miles of beautiful lakefront access lined by multi million dollar mansions and do it for free. Set aside some time to enjoy the natural and manmade beauty of the lake, the homes, and the landscaping and walk in peace. Go with a friend and enjoy the conversation. You won't regret the time!

You can't get away from "the lake" when you are in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. But don't take it for granted. Be sure to save time to walk, bicycle, skateboard, whatever somewhere along this path. The lakeshore path encompasses 20+ miles so it can be congested near town, but the most popular segment is the North Shore section from Williams Bay to Lake Geneva. It's popular for cruising through the historic area of this lovely region. It is always windy by the lake, so be prepared for a temperature change. Bring your camera if you choose to walk near sunset. You will enjoy a spectacular array of colors!

Twenty six miles of sheer beauty if you are up for it or shorter trips if you are not. Where else can yuou wlk through the front yards of the chosen few?

The shore path offers a free, safe pathway around the entire lake. The young and adventurous can make a full day hike of the 20+ mile path all the way around the lake but most opt for shorter segments. Particularly popular is the North Shore walk from Lake Geneva to Williams Bay which passes by many of the lake's historic estates.

I just did this walk on the Friday after Thanksgiving with a friend (2014). She was wise and brought a change of shoes. I was not so wise and wore heavy boots for the whole thing! I definitely suggest a change of shoes and a few pairs of socks if you plan on hiking the whole trail...which is 26.2 miles according to every local and 21 miles to every tourist. My phone died at mile 17 so I was just short of getting a GPS mileage on it. But using MapMyWalk on the computer calculated it to be exactly 21 miles. We didn't quite finish because once we arrived at Lake Geneva it was already getting darker, and we wanted to find a local restaurant to enjoy. We started at Linn Pier Road and walked along the south side (clockwise), free parking lot there and close to Lake Geneva. The cab ride back to my car was in excess of $23! We weren't too bummed about missing the last 3 or 4 miles other than cab fare. I will go back this winter yet and wear the right shoes with a pair to switch out. Bathroom breaks were a bit challenging but we found "places" to go. I really enjoyed the various terrain. I could care less about mansions or any houses at all. I liked the wildlife. And be very careful in the winter. Just two miles into the walk I wiped out pretty hard on some ice and came within mere inches from falling into the Lake. I fell again toward the end but was too exhausted to feel anything. All I could do was laugh even though I did get a pretty nice gash on my side from that fall. My next walk will be alone, and I plan on just spending some intimate time with God in prayer and talk to anyone I see. Locals were very friendly. I highly recommend this walk. Just think ahead and be prepared. Nuts, dried berries, fruits, veggies are great snacks to have along.

It was a nice day with the lake breezes. It was quiet and peaceful, and a great time just to walk and talk with someone special.

A wonderful path full of picturesque scenery and stately homes. A treasure open to all, especially beautiful during fall color season.
