I had some extra time while in Green Bay on business today, so I decided to stop by the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary...while it was 0 degrees outside. Even though it was mind-numbingly cold out, and most of the sanctuary is outdoors, I still had a great time. The raptor exhibit had a decent amount of different types of birds of prey. The education center seemed to be geared at small children, but I would recommend anyone - child or adult to try out the slide (I think it was called the otter slide?) on the second floor. It was a tight squeeze to get my adult-sized self in the slide, and I banged up my knee a bit, but man, that was a fun slide. Then I went on the mile long loop to see the wolves, coyote, bobcat, cougar, river otters, etc. I was especially impressed by how close the wolves walk by the window of the building, and also by the path on the outside. If something is this cool when it is so stupid cold, I can only imagine that when weather is nice that this sanctuary would be really awesome.
We go here a lot with our grandson. Its right across the street from Bay Beach Amusement Park. Its a fun place to walk and see the animals and birds. Kids really love it.
Truly a relaxing place with many water foul. places to picnic. The children stayed busy on their own as they were entertained by the animals. It was a very pleasant time.
We enjoyed our trip here quite bit. You certainly can't beat the price - free! We enjoyed the otters very much and spent a great deal of time checking out the birds. The animals are spread out, but the amount of walking is quite manageable. Neat place.
The centers had fun kids activities to do and was very informative of wildlife. If like owls their live owls where awesome....Also they had a cougar and other animals to see..
Feed the geese and ducks, wander thru the enclosures. Bring the kids and your camera. FREE! A wonderful place to visit, especially in the Spring when the geese and ducks are nesting and then a bit later in the season with all the babies are wandering around with their moms. There are also walking trails and you are right across the street from Bay Beach Amusement Park.
Brought my German relation here, mom, dad and 3 young girls, and they all had a lot of fun. They especially liked the slide from the 2nd floor to the first floor. There is alot to read and many small interaction doors to open and read as well. Then, going outside and feeding the geese and ducks, having them eat right out of your hand, and being able to be so close to them, is pretty cool. I thought the animals and birds in cages were neat to see, but I think the girls were getting a little bored with that. But the bridge and the tunnel and the slide all scored big. The walk to the tower was a little long and the girls were getting tired by then, but it did help to have playground equipment along the way to play on.All in all, we had a good time and we tired out the girls, which was a 'star' in my book.
The Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is a very nice place to spend the afternoon (even in the winter!). It's smaller than a zoo, but it's free, and there are a lot of animals to see. There are a variety of animals including wolves, deer, a porcupine, reptiles, bats, otters, and a lot of birds! There is a cute pond (i.e. great picture spot) where geese and ducks congregate and beg for food. One cool thing is that the Wildlife Sanctuary takes in a lot of injured birds, so there are areas with cages birds that aren't able to live in the wild (hawks, falcons, eagles, owls, etc.), and then there are wild birds flying all around as well. It's a very pretty place to take pictures of the fall colors, and it's even fun to walk around the trails in the winter! My only caution is that it's super easy to get lost, so do try to get a map to make sure to hit all the places you want to see and to be able to find your car! There are also a lot of places to park, so pay attention to which area you parked in. Lastly, some of the buildings close earlier than others, so be aware ahead of time which area closes at which time to make sure to hit the ones you want to see! Most of the animals are outdoor, but there are a lot of areas where the gate will be closed and locked to get into that area at a certain time, so do be aware of the schedule.
Just an outstanding way to spend an hour or two in the Green Bay Area. Who knew that this small bird sanctuary was this nice. You don't have to be a bird fan to really enjoy going here. Nice pleasant place to walk, and simply enjoy the trees and water. Plus there are birds there most folks never see in their lifetime. A snowy owl, for example. Several different eagles. A true gem, close to downtown, and easy to get to.
The Wildlife Sanctuary is free, and fun for families to explore the woods and trails and visit the animals. There is a small zoo with wild wolves, and deer and also caged animals. There is a pond with a bridge across where you feed the ducks and geese. The woods are beautiful with the fall leaves and there are many miles of trails. The nature center has classes for kids. Nearby is Bay Beach Amusement park with lots of rides some are even 10 cents.
The Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary is a pretty cool place to visit. I was quite impressed that it was free. They have quite a few local animals you can visit. They harbor a lot of injured birds that cannot be rereleased. They have a ton of ducks and geese just wandering around begging for food. I am curious if someone ever got injured from one of those things. Haha. But overall, a nice place to spend an afternoon.
This is a nice little sanctuary. It is more geared towards children. There isn't a lot to keep adults occupied. It killed an hour of time.
Although it is well attended seemingly every time we visit, we love the chance to enjoy the surroundings.
Loved this place since I was a child. Love going at this time of the year as the geese and ducks are starting to have their babies. I bring my grandson so that he can feed the birds and see the new babies. Also love to see the new wolves in their habitat and watch them play. The otters are cute too! So much to look at and do
The director Mike Reed is a dedicated man who heads a great staff of interns, full-timers and volunteers. I am a wildlife rehabilitator and I was "blown away" by the quality of the care and the great facilities they have at the sanctuary. It is a great place for people to see all kinds of native animals and learn about their care. The "otter slide" was so much fun (yes, even adults can go down the slide) and taking a peek inside the tree trunk in the educational display was a hoot! I would highly recommend it for families and anyone interested in preserving our wildlife.
