There is so much information available here it is mind boggling. Each area geographically arranged. Coupon booklets everywhere for meals, lodging and attractions. But this place has really nice workers that know the area as to ways to avoid traffic, Short cuts to places, etc. In my case they saved me over 30 minutes of travel time by getting off of hwy three exits earlier to my destination!
I'm from Chambersburg and the first time I went here, I really didn't know what to expect. Very nice surprise. Great place to get a start on local history and attractions.
If you are a history buff the Visitors Bureau building located on the square in downtown Chambersburg is a must see. It is a completely beautifully renovated older bank building. Professionally created review of the local history of Chambersburg and surrounding areas.
This office is very knowledgeable about the area and what to do while in town- visiting or living. Their website is great and easy to navigate and find attractions in the area. As a resident of Chambersburg, it's even a great tool / resource!
Very informative and professional. This place gives you great ideas on what to see and do. A must stop.
It was a small museum attached to the Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce office. The admission was free. It had a small gift shop and featured a movie about Franklin County. My youngest enjoyed the different old-timey pioneer costumes that had for the kid's to try on. I learned that Route 30 goes all the way to San Francisco. We just parked at a meter in downtown Chambersburg. I don't know if they have a parking lot. It might be a good place to stop first. We stopped there on our last day in Chambersburg.
I live in Chambersburg, and have visited here several times. It would be of special interest to anyone who has ever lived in this area, moved away, and would like to see a new museum which Chambersburg has developed to highlight its history and current attractions. Of general interest to any history buffs, there is information on the burning of Chambersburg during the Civil War and how John Brown's history intersects with Franklin County. There are many interesting exhibits and a small gift shop. Someone is always on duty during operating hours to answer questions and assist with maps and directions. From the Visitors Bureau, which is right in the downtown area where you can take an interesting walking tour, and not too far from Gettysburg and other historical areas.
Did the walking tour of downtown. Very interesting. Visited the Heritage Museum. A very informative 10-12 minute video of the history of chambersburg. A friend was out of town with work and had they been home we'd have seen a lot more. We used chambersburg area as our base for visiting Gettysburg.
Information geared to your interests - extremely helpful and friendly ladies!! Ladies were very conversational and tailored their information to meet our questions.
A really neat place to get info and souvenirs - staff is extremely courteous and helpful. I enjoy coming here to get local history and gifts to send to friends that live in other states
We ended up spending about an hour here. It is more like a museum. Wonderful, and helpful staff. Chambersburg is a lovely little town with so many things to do that we never made it to Gettysburg. We will have to come back for another visit when we have more time!
We stopped in to see the staff on 8/21/12. They were friendly and informative, providing us with a variety of materials about Franklin County and Chambersburg. We could not have asked for more.
Everyone who worked there were very nice and explained everything well. If you are visiting I suggest you go and take a tour of Chambersburg Very interesting
Frankin County has a very dedicated staff, to make all of your visits to the county a memorable one.
