Visiting Root's Market is one of those rare experiences. Sure, during the summer and fall, there's fresh fruits, vegetables, and flowers to choose from. But to experience the auctions and roam the market ... the sights, the sounds, the smells, the tastes ... all blend together into a memory that will last forever. And if you're into the flea market scene, well you won't leave disappointed. They will surely have something you can't live without!!!

The market is only opened on Tuesday. I visited in February and most of the outside tables are empty. Inside all of the stalls were full and there was an interesting variety of local and homemade food items, many apparently made and sold by Amish. I found some great sticky buns and a nice hoagie. There are many souvenirs to browse through and I enjoyed spending about 90 minutes there. I'm sure that in better weather when the outside vendors are there you can probably spend more time there. A fun place to explore and shop.

Produce, baked goods, granola, honey and stuffed peppers are always on my list, but this place has much more. Lots to eat! Great subs and beef sandwiches are favorites. Packed in the summer with an outdoor flea market. Make it a must stop. Only open on Tuesdays!

I like to hit here at least once a month, its large and has plenty of variety for everyone. Although the outside vendors are much more plentiful in the summer, spring and fall than they are in the winter months for obvious reasons. I have been coming here since I was a little kid, I really enjoy it.

We visited here in December. Considering it was right before Christmas, I was disappointed with the amount of venders. There wasn't much there that caused me to pause to take a second look. I have been here a bunch of times but was actually disappointed this visit.

It's a fairly big place. When we went they were having a Christmas bazaar. It was cold out so there weren't many vendors. We didn't buy anything, but looks like it be one heck of a place in the spring or summer. Will return next time we go up that way!

This was our third stop at Roots through the years of visiting our daughter in Lancaster, PA. We love going inside for the more "completed" foods like turkey sausage, nut butters, cheeses, etc. And the outside area has an amazing choice in apples, unique items like purple and yellow cauliflower, beautiful chiles, etc. We had a wonderful lunch ... all different. I had a Gyro, they had pizza, my husband had a sausage sandwich. Its an "experience" and a wonderful place to buy foods and crafts.

Root's market is full of home-grown veggies and fruits. There is also a large selection of meats and cheeses and baked goods. You will also be able to find homemade crafts. This farmers' market also sells some antique items as well as new items. Take your time when there asyou will also see food vendors with many ready-to-eat items. It is a great place to visit especiallyif you have never been to a real farmers' market. However, the excellent prices also keep many locals coming back on Tuesdays week after week.

Even though were locals for 15 years now , we find roots to be interesting and find values and items you just don't see anywhere else and if your in the mood for a small animal auction well this is your place , interesting people and a real Amish country experience

Roots is an institution in Central PA, and my husband and I decided to go on a Tuesday (only day the market is open) in late October. We figured there would not be much of a crowd. Wrong. Roots was a mob scene at 10:30 a.m. with people parking and pushing past, whipping you with their bags soon to be filled with groceries. There are several buildings to visit for baked goods, antiques, fresh meat and veggies, tons of fresh fruit, deli items, clothes on racks in the sun, designer purse knock-offs, and food trucks galore. There is even livestock at auction. My husband was ready to drive home before we disembarked from the car. I encouraged him to give at least a piece of the place a try. We did two buildings and some outside stands and managed to enjoy ourselves in the process. The only good we ate there were Fertile Valley soft ice cream cones. That soft ice cream is the best I have EVER tasted. We were able to snag some bargains on apples, pears, and bananas. The baked goods were well-priced and delicious (once we were home to taste the donuts, cake, and gingerbread men). It's an interesting place for local color, Amish and Mennonite style, and seems like an international market at times with all of the foreign tongues being spoken among the visitors. It's a worthy place to visit as long as you can block out the rude people and the overwhelming size/scope of the market. I expect we will return and experience some of the other buildings in the future.

Wow. We loved this experience. The produce and the prices are amazing. If you need anything you will find it here.

I have been going to Roots since I was a little kid, the baked goods and treats are amazing as is the selection of Amish foods and goods. Most markets have become rows and rows of knock-off products and seconds where Roots stays true to providing vendors who have everything from hand made jewelry for-sale to hand crafted Amish and Mennonite cheeses, chow chows, eggs and meats. Ya Gotta Love Roots! (if your a local its pronounced Rutz) ;-)

Suggest you arrive early to secure a parking space. Wear good walking shoes and bring a cooler if you plan to purchase food. Bringing along your own canvas shopping bags also might be a good ideaCould do without the junky vendors but enjoyed all the fruits and veggies and the Amish goods.

Amish food, unusual things. I'm sure everyone will enjoy this Tuesday event. Get there early the parking gets scarce.

Roots is one of those places that make me so grateful to live in the Lancaster area. It's a Tuesday tradition that we rarely miss, and it was for my grandparents, too! This market is classic Lancaster County, with the most delicious produce, meats and baked goods in the area. And that's saying something considering that Lancaster County is home of some of the best, most bountiful farm land in the world. We are fortunate to have many fine markets, and Roots is in a class by itself. It is fun to watch the selections change with the seasons, and to see the special crafts for sale, as well as the live auctions. The deals after 6pm are tremendous.
