Chisel Creek opened in 1999 and the germs were amazing. Some holes such as 7 were quirky at best. Over the years course conditions went south but two years ago a new super came in. There was a good improvement in 2014 but fairways suffered from years of lack of attention. They were airated and re-seeded in the fall of 2014 and were already showing good improvement in November. Understand work has continued thro the winter improving peripheral areas, trees and brush and am really looking forward to 2015.This course has always had great friendliness from the staff and now it looks as though the overall quality is catching up.I don,t think it will ever be a tough course that challenges low handicap players but the short yardage will mislead many and the first two holes mislead about what is to follow.A good challenge, great people and very much on an upswing in quality whilst offering great value for money.
AWFUL! No matter how cheap your round, this course is not worth it. Ownership is indifferent and unwilling to spend money on promised/advertised upgrades and amenities.
It has been two years since I last played Chisel Creek...I like the layout, but condition was always the problem. Things haven't changed. While they have shaved the fairways, they are still chock full of clover, and various other invasive weeds, not to mention in need of serious over-seeding. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because the greens are in great shape. $49 for a decent surface to putt on is a little on the high side. Oh, but they did have some new benches and a lot of new stakes in an attempt to keep carts away from the greens. I guess I'll give it another two years and see if the new golf superintendent knows what he's doing.
Course is okay. Great value for price. Nice people. Some interesting holes. If you are in the area, it's definitely one of a few good choices for public golf.
I am an average to below average golfer. Chisel Creek is a good value, especaily the twilight rate. While I have seen better maintained courses, this one works just fine for my level of play. Friendly staff, also open all year. I will be back!
This course, played today August 3rd, was the worse course I've ever seen. They should close. every fairway was mud and crab grass. Just absolutely terrible. Avoid at all costs. There are much better courses that actually have grass inthe fairway. Sad when you hit the fairway and have to move it 15 feet just to find grass.I made my displeasure known. Was told "every course around is like this". I said "I played Back Creek yesterday and it was fine." Nothing offered or given. Again AVOID!
The course is really about the third hole which is the best of the 18, I only say this because I reached the green. Once on the green you might have a better chance of putting down a pothole riddle street in New York, in the middle of winter than at Chisel Creek. The last hole 18th, is very confusing with another fairway literally on top of each other. I don't think I would out of my way to place this course again, even through the staff were all very nice the course is well, I should have just gone on to Northeast.
Recent improvements, including a new Grounds Superitendant have made a big difference to the quality of the course. Always great value, maybe worth another try if you are in the area.
Not as classy as some courses but good, local value. Not long but tough and the signature 3rd hole is worth the visit!
Agree entirely with previous reviewer; the greens and fairways are in awful shape. Really the worst golf course I have ever seen.
I have played this course for a few years now and it has continued to get bad. There are bare pots everywhere on the greens and fairways. The course is overrun with crabgrass and dandelions. The bunker sand has playground sand in them with pebbles throughout it. Don not spend the money to play here. I pity the members because this course has become a cow pasture.
Course was well maintained. Layout was challenging yet playable. Only concern was were poor yardage markers.... bring your rangefinder! Had an excellent round.
Played the course for the first time in the fall and was amazed by the course and how well maintained for the late in the year! Also, it's the best deal in town for the price. If you're in the area stop by and play it!!
Was really disappointed by Chisel Creek. Almost in my backyard, I had never gotten around playing it until yesterday. Course weaves up and down through former cornfields, with very little imagination given to layout. Greens are very tight and small, and extremely undulating on several occasions. You'd think such a wavy course would reward you with a flat green, but no. On many tees, you are hitting in between two fairways where golfers are hitting in your direction; several balls landed close to me, but with all the hills, the hitter had no idea I was there. The island green was probably the best hole of the bunch, but that is about the only water on the course. The course condition was very dry; the gravel/dirt cart paths were just terrible to be driving on - dust was everywhere and in everything. Balls really bounced on fairways and greens due to the dryness. We played for $44/with cart on a Sunday afternoon at 1:20pm. They have a temporary clubhouse because the clubhouse that has been built has not been allowed to open due to permit problems.I would say a below-average course. There are many better, similarly priced courses in the area (Loch Nairn, Tanglewood, Pilgrim's Oak) that are much more worth your time.
